Picture Uploads not working?

Computer says uploads to Avitar and Album worked but all that shows is a red X /forum/smilies/crying_smiley.gif, Can any one explain what I am doing wrong. Thanks, Tight lines

The avatar has to measure 100 x 120 pixels.
