Summer Piking

I went catting last week and got buggered about by pike all night, landing 8 fish and missing another 3 or 4.
I was surface fishing livebaits in 16 feet of water at night and they were smashing into the baits with vigour.
The fight, although generally poor, (as with most pike) was certainly better than the dour sluggishness of winter fish.

5 to 10 minutes rest in the landing net and they were flaring their gills and ready to swim off.

I've had unbelieveable fights from summer fish, some of them are just mental.

Rik....10 foot pier rods and 20 pound line do tend to stop the Pike giving a good show for itself!..hehe

All my pike fight hard...possibly because many of them have never seen a hook before.
