Heavy Duty Lure rod

Can I get some advise on some heavy duty lure rod's for using with large lures / Jerkbaits?
I currently use a Berkley Biceps 8' rod which is rated for 10-35g lures but don't want to over stretch the rod on too large lures. The new rod would be coupled to a Abu Ambassador 6501C3 multi which I have found through ebay.
All advise welcome.
Cheers Jon

For the best ring either Dave Lumb or Nick Buss. There are how ever plenty of cheap "jerkbait"/heavy lure rods on the market these days.Ive not used them myself but take a look at the Fox ones or the TFG for example.

John,

Give Andy a call at Luremania and he has a Bass Pro rod I use for baits up to 8ozs but it will manage a 10ozs Bull Dog as long as you can cast them. They are cheaper than Dave Lumbs rods but I have seen Dave's rods and he makes a nice rod for the price. Both give good advice!!

Have a look at the Shimano Beastmaster range. The 60JXH (or XHJ) from memory at just over ?40 from a good tackle shop.

Jon,

I've been using Lumby's 'Sledgehammer II' for the last couple of seasons, it seems a strong and nicely finished rod. I can't remember exactly what it cost, around ?90 I think. I'm well happy with it.

Good quality Lure rods don't seem to cost as much as other good specialist rods. I suppose there's considerably less material needed.

Regards Chris

the new fox jerkbait rod is a goodun at less than ?40,i bought one and sold my old fox jerkmaster nettle basher!which,by the way, cost me over ?70!the toothy critter jerk rod isn`t a bad one either.my mate uses the dave lumb ones and swears by them.

I'd buy the Lumb ones if I could afford them, Toothy Critter, Fox etc is a third of the price and when you're comparing broom handles, which let's face it these rods are, there's not a lot of difference for the extra ?60 or so.

About sums it up Chris! not much subtle variation in the action of a snooker cue is there! Nick does make a nicely finnished rod though with fittings ,colours, lengths etc of your choice for around ?70 so I dont think thats to bad.

Thanks for all the responses , I'll do a bit of nosing around at the different rods and see which suits me best.
Chris I did try to drop you a mail from here the other day , I'm guessing you didn't get it?
Cheers Jon

Jon I did thanks, sorry for delay but I did reply. Glad to hear you're still "at it", how's married life treating you - you were about to tie the knot last time we spoke.

Married Life not too bad, still get chance to get out once in a while....
Have to admit I haven't had much of a go for the pike in while as I got swayed by some carp. I have a trout water that isn't fished at all for pike that I'm on at the minute and I'm hoping it should throw up something. 2 30's were taken out about 5yrs ago but still seeing young pike about so who knows.
Cheers Jon

the new fox jerkbait isn`t a broomstick and neither is the toothy critter.if you use jerkbaits, you need a suitable rod.
