Sure, what surprises me is how completely differently things have evolved over there - even when targeting similar fish to us such as pike, walleye etc.

Chris...thank god I say!!..lol Can't see lure fishing for carp catching on...imagine all the bait companies that would go under..lol

You may well laugh Rob but there was a piece in Angler's Mail on this very subject last year. Ultra-light rubber jig thingies, like in Harris catalogue.

Since then we've had lure (and fly...) fishing for barbel. And when I buy Trout Fisherman this month what do I see - a piece on flies for carp and chub, along with who ties 'em.

I'd avoid Whiplash braid unless you're fishing somewhere completely snag-free.

I had it cut on a fish yesterday - the fish surged off, I felt the line grate on something on the bottom and next thing I knew it was gone.

The line was all roughed up and abraded for 6" or so above where it went.

I've felt fish dragging the line over snags and bars using Fireline and have never had this happen before.
