Hi there

I have recently bought a second hand 12 ft dorry.

The paintwork is a little "pitted" which I assume is the gel coat been damaged.

Its also had several re-paints and I want to strip it back and re-paint it all.

Does anyone have any advice on removing old pain, I had conidered sandblasting but am worried it might damage the glass?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Rich

To be honest, I wouldn't bother. all that launching and re-launching will always mean boats are chipped and scratched.

but if you are going to repaint I certainly wouldn't consider sandblasting.

Maybe just rub the whole thing down and repaint over the other coats of paint.

With a bit of practice you should be able to launch and recover fibreglass boats of up to about 13ft, and slightly bigger aluminium ones, on your own (side winds can be a bit of a bugger). Putting a couple of side 'arms' on your trailer to help position the boat on recovery helps a lot. One of the secrets is to attach the trailer to the tow bar with a rope. This means that you don't have tyo worry too much about the trailer and can concentrate on the boat.
