If it's still swimming in a long thin brit puddle, it won't be for much longer. Hope it's a continental fish in a very big canal with access to pits etc along the way.

I thought that Lionel Blair was just Rhyming Slang these days but saw him on telly last week:eek:

to be fair... if I caught a 43lb pike from a brit canal - I would have negociated exclusive rights to a weekly rag or kept it to a small trust worthy group of individuals (speci group).

Why mention it on a forum;)

I agree.... since joining a specialist group, i feel it totally un-nesseary to publicise captures out side a trusted circle of friends.

Nothing wrong with celebrating a sucess. however, a carefully taken photograph against some neutral bankside vegitation and keeping back details of venue can keep the wolves at bay - but more likely the sharper members of the pike circus will investigate further, find out your fave haunts and go from there..... its a tough call!

Back to my original comment - the reason we mention are captures is because some of us are shallow enough to enjoy recognition.

From a personal point of view 'where' does not interest me - but I'd love to see a piccy of a forty!! preferably posed with both Lionel Blair and Una stubbs and the originol cast from Grease.

Do you mean you caught one ? If you did wow - well done

I saw a pike eating another smaller pike on the surface in the summer , or just holding it by the head while its tail flapped around , magnificient beast i would guess just above 10.

Hi Chav

Did you ever feel it necessary to publicise captures? I have always found it hard to understand why anybody (whose livelyhood didn't depend on it) would effectively ruin their own fishing (and others who fish there) by letting the world in on it.

15minutes of fame? Maybe, but probably something to regret at leisure.

On club waters we were encouraged to post pics of fish - nothing major in the speci world, just good fish for the given venues............

However - you put in a google picture search and what comes up???? you guessed it! it is not privately accessable - if it goes on-line - it is public.

When I give details - they are not the types of venues that would 'ruin' my fishing. We don't have 'specimen' type venues in my area - for that I have to travel.......

You may never know!

you may well be right...... its just that human nature being what it is.... there is a limit to how private or secret something can become without someone finding out something.

e.g. a 30lb pound pike from a 'local' lake - it was caught several times before someone let the cat out of the bag.

Within reason there are a few Suffolk venues that can do ****** to **lb, ***** to *lb and ****** to *-*lb. barbel are very unrealistic and ***** over *lb? highly un-repeatable. Len Head's river record carp has long deceased but others remain uncaught I am certain..... The real monster carp have evaided me - but I am reluctant to devote the effort required to catch them regularly.

***** there I've gone all coy;)
