Hi all, my freind recently brought a small boat and living so close to the Thames were thinking of of fishing from it, when the season opens again.

Mainly do carp fishing but in winter I trot on small rivers for anything, with both of these methods not ideal for boat fishing, I thought of lure fishing.

Now I've never done predetor fishing before but have found a bit of information on it, for lure fishing it said your likely to catch pike, perch, zander, chub, grayling, trout and salmon. I also found that its suggested that 6ft rods with multipiler reels are best for fishing from a boat.

I know you can't be to fussy when lure fishing but I like the sound of catching the perch and chub. Can anyone suggest some articles i can look at that involve lure fishing for perch and chub?

Also any other tips like what rods/multipilers would be ideal for the samaller predeters, location, tactics etc, would be very grateful

Hope this helps a bit. I have soem more to add and will cover perch and chub last, near summer.

For lures for perch, try small Mepps and Abu Droppens. A light spinning rod with small fixed spool will do the job for them.

Where are you launching your boat from on the Thames? Engine etc.?

Thanks for the link.

Planning on using two places to get in, one is near the Flower Pot pub in Henly and the other is by a Swimming pool in Windsor.
Yeah is a 4 man boat, well 4 small blokes! ha and does have a engine.

Is summer best for perch/chub - lure fishing?

If you want to launch at Harleyford, they charge ?10 to use the slipway, but good secure parking at least. Pay at the gate if you like. Gets you up to Hurley weir and down through Temple lock to temple weir.

There's a free slip at Marlow and also Cookham, but parking is the problem.

I was in Henley last Tuesday. Not fit to launch a boat then!

Not fit to launch a duck, to be truthful.

For lures for perch,

rublex ondex man perch can't get enough of em in the thames.
once had 3 of em all over 3lb chasing mine, problem is the buggers spent so much time squabbling over who was going to eat it none of em did till i'd run out of river and had to take it out.

To be honest, I wouldn't bother with multis if it's a perching outfit you want. Multis are ideal for specialised/specimen lure fishing, where fixed spools aren't up to the job but in all likelihood, you'll be throwing small spinners, plugs and ultralites. When you're fishing that light, you'll probably find that a fixed spool is cheaper, more accurate, quicker to use and comfier.
I seldom use multis for perching because I find they offer no real advantages over the fixed spools.
