try keeping the oil warm and a gentle heat on the needle some time helps to but not to much heat!

Sounds like your needle's blocked Hamish - some oils have particles of fish in them, it could be that.

What size needle are you using? I work for the NHS and when we are drawing up drugs a wide bore needle is used (the colour of the end that fits onto the syringe is white).

Hope this helps.

i bought a wychwood syringe and had the exact same problem, then realised it was way too thin. Got a wider one and that done the job

Like ernest says, a standard bore needle will not draw up oil, a doc friend of mine got me somewith a green end, & they work a treat, yours will work on carp flavours.

Pick yourself up one of the fox pedator oil and air kits, it comes with two syringes and either three or four different bore needles, the largest of which will do even the gloopiest (is that even a word?) of oils.

I asked the girlfriend last night as she used to be a nurse& you can also pick up needles from a chemist. Might be cheaper than those from specialist tackle companies

You might get a few strarnge looks when you go to the Chemists, but theneedles are much cheaper than the tackle shop. You can also buy different sizes of syringes.

It pays to look around when buying sundries. Just because it isn't sold in a tackle shop doesn't mean that it can't be used in an angling situation.I've recently purchased some nylon covered wire from Hobbycraft (it is used for bead stringing). They have a selection of breaking strains, colours and strand content (eg 19 & 49 stranded wire). The only drawback is that this wire might be a bit too stiff for deadbait work but its fine for lure work.

I rarely use the needle anymore. I normally slash my bait a few times and I find the end of the syringe is long enough to fir into each gash and deliver as much oil as is required. i do have large bore needles. The types for mixing paints are ideal.
