Nice fish for my mate Alan yesterday, thrashing about trying to unhook in the net, ended with hook barb through his finger ouch! Quickly pushed through flesh to expose and I snipped it off with a pair of Fox snips (barb not the finger). No time for photos so fish back ASAP... slid down the embankment on wet grass and I fell in!
Fish returned none the worse for wear

Chris, it is worth noting for any future occurrence, if you cut off the finger not the barb it will prevent it happening again to that finger. I can assure you that this is a fact, because since cutting the top off my finger in a circular saw some 30 years ago that finger has not had the top cut off it again.
