For the last few years i have noticed a big difference in takes on the two rivers i pike fish on when deadbaiting. The Bure in norfolk 65% of the takes fall to the upstream rods where as the Thames 70% are from the downstream rods. The only differance between the two is that the Thames is a bigger river.. Both are fished from a boat

Has anybody else noticed this.....

Maybe depth too is relevant. Only thinking along same lines as uptide boatcasting in the sea.

Just a wild guess... Could water clarity affect the shadow of the boat for those downstream fish facing the boat whereas the upstream fish are facing away from the boat.
Maybe a silly idea?

When lure fishing I have found that I catch more chub when casting upstream.
Strange thing yesterday all my takes on the pike lake yesterday came when casting to the left nothing at all when casting to the right.
