I'm pleased with 3rd place, its my first winter for many years perch fishing and will try again next time around. I've really enjoyed myself and had over 80 perch on Saturday trying for a 4lb+ fish, but unfortunately had nothing bigger than around 12ounce.
Well done to the winner, his perch is a real lump.

It's been a tough season on the Severn for me perch fishing . One really good session , a few where I've caught but the river has been in flood most weekends since Christmas . Congratulations to Tone1 , that is a fabulous catch .

Has anyone else got a tape measure out and tried to imagine a perch like this, or is it just me?

Dave , spend a bit of time targeting them mate. I try fish any likely looking spot I can on my clubs stretches of the Severn , slacks , deep holes or creases . My tactics are pretty basic , I lay on with a couple of lobworms on a size 8 circle hook and just twitch the bait now and again . I'll generally put some chopped worm and maggots in via a bait dropper . I think looking at the results decent sized perch are pretty well spread . I just think they aren't really targeted like carp and barbel

Tight line Ian

Interesting that, Ian. I fish the lower Severn and the perch do seem to be doing well at the moment.
I must get off my backside and have a concerted go for them.

Russell , they'll be there . I fished on the Vyrnwy yesterday , just a bit of a reccy really not targeting anything in particular trotting maggots . I caught a few gudgeon one of which was mobbed by 3 or 4 small perch . I swapped to worms and had a few . They give a good account of themselves on float tackle and look fantastic , especially out of a river when the colours really show.
