Can anyone recommend a good hook for perch fishing? Looking to fish worms and other than looking for a pattern with a wide gape i don't know what else to look for.

Cheers

Kamasan B980 Specimen eyed size 12 is my hook choice for Perch on the worm ,the sharpness of these hooks is impressive and they will stop anything.

i'll second that, although i use bigger sizes depending on my worms. dendras go on a 10 or 12, big lobs on 6's and 8's. i also find you can fit a small livebait on a 6 with good results, so in pike free waters you only rig up once for the session.

wide gape and thin wire to aid penetration

they will indeed penetrate the heart very effectively if the perch do their normal wolf it down take

personally wouldn't look past a superspecialist.

Was thinking along the lines of a Kamasan Animal as i've used these before and have complete faith in them strength wise but didn't know if i was better off with a long shanked hook so that i could thread a dendro' up the shank and then fish a further half a dendro' on the bend?

sunbury on thames
I agree , I use drennan super specialists , pukka hook . Livebaits of 2 inches or so on a size 12 or 10 ideal , personally I won't use animal hooks for perch fishing as I find them far too shiny silver , dead strong hooks , agreed , but I use the size 20s on the float rod and personally don't use that choice of hook when in need of a bigger size. . The stretch of the thames I fish I've find the perch there (who've seen it all before) shy away from big shiny hooks , so I use small as possible in size to the bait I'm using. Once you get a bite from a perch especially a big one , you know most of the time they wolf it down meaning more often than not a tiny hook is bound to find a hold ......

i don't find colour to be an issue with perching, especially as i have caught perch on a bare animal hook in the past. (it had fallen in the margin while photographing another fish)

they also seem to have no trouble attacking lives with big silver trebles hanging out their lips, attached to a wire trace? mind you, i've never really targetted particularly pressured fish.
