Terry, i'm sorry to dissapoint you but I do not think there is any 'quick fix' route to catching a specimen. There may be a few easier waters, but that does not mean that the fish jump on any bait or lure that enters the water even there.
I'm afraid that you will have to persevere with blank days, slightly different methods and cold hands, just the same as all of us.
There are many waters around the Sheffield area that hold good pike, The Rivers Don and Rother, Ulley, Langsett, Harthill and Pebly reservoirs are a good place to start. While fishing at these places you can enjoy the 'crack' with others and pick up more detailed tips. Another option is to join your local PAC branch, this may actually be a quicker route to success.

Damflask used to be a premier pike water years ago. it threw up a number of 30s during the 70s and 80s. I don't know how it shapes up these days.

If you want lots of medium sized pike I would recommend the Idle and the Warping Drain.

During the 60s I used to catch lots of Pike at Langold Lake and the Chesterfield Canal. Langold has produced many 20s in the past but it is not an easy water.

The main problem in this area are the pike killers. Nev Ficking called the Sheffield, Doncaster, Worksop area the "Killing Triangle" The problem being that this area has a large population of match anglers. Sorry to say this but it's true.

Ron, lots of fish are still being killed within the South Yorkshire area (i'm sure that we are not alone in this) by clubs with ponds and lakes trying to keep down the predators which kill and eat their fish stocks.
They seem to be of the opinion that pike eat all day every day and consume a large proportion of their bodyweight doing so and that given time only pike would remain.

Terry, i've looked up the regional contact listing for the PAC and unfortunatley there is not a Sheffield area group, the nearest being Doncaster (Dunsville) which is a long way from you. I have attended both Doncaster and Wakefield group meetings and am sure that if enough people were interested we could start a Rotherham / Sheffield area group.

Phil,

I noticed one day in Dave Parkes Shop, someone who was trying to start a predator group in the Rotherham area.

I have heard stories of a twenty pound plus pike being taken from underbank resovoir last year and killed this seems to back up your story of the dreaded pike killing attitude in sheffield, some people dont understand that pike do a important job in our rivers and lakes, but how do you get through to these so called anglers

Terry, I know of a few areas on the Chesterfield canal where there are pike to be caught, but as has been stated in other replies alot of areas are netted every year and the pike are killed which is slowly ruining my sport around the Worksop area. I have even been approached to kill any pike I catch on the canal, with the offer of free books to fish the clubs water! But what good is that when there are no pike left to fish for, which are all the fish that I fish for.

I have just caught my first 20lb pike 3-1-03 there were three waterboard men presant and they wanted me to kill the pike, I was disgusted by this, the pike was returned unharmed but the attitudes of people towards this fish are iggnorant to say the least

terry you could try baileys pond, go down the A57 towards worksop and when you get to lindrick golf course get ready, after passing the golf course you will come to a small wood on the left hand side of the road about 30 yards before the roundabout which goes left to woodsets or straight on to worksop there is a small track turnoff in there is a lake which used to hold a good head of pike, think it's about 3quid perday or it's on the worksop book,
it's also got some nice tench in it. probably one of the few places in yorkshire which has produced a double, many years ago though i might add.
if you want a tip on tench fishing it read the tench specialist thread.
that's the pond i mentioned with the sand spit.
it's also along with langold lake that ron mentioned the place i learned to fish.

Amidst all this doom n gloom about pike kills in the area, Pebley seems to be bucking the trend by avtually stocking unwanted pike from other waters according to their website. Havent fished there yet, but im sure i will do, only 2 or 3 junctions up the motorway from me

Jason. Is that pond you call Bailey's the same as Woodsetts Quarry? If so it is a good place for pike and tench. I had one of 27lb+ (pike) some ten years ago but what put me off was all the litter left by occasional visitors.

The last time I fished Woodsetts Quarry Pond (2002) amongst the litter was a Peugot van half underwater in second bay at the car park.
It thas produced at least one 30 (31.12)thpugh albeit 20 odd years ago. It came out 3 or 4 times but was eventually found dead in the woods nearby.

yes rod that's the place grew up on there, it can get a bit litter full because it's where all the local kids learn to fish through the summer plus the pikies throwing all their shite in but you don't tend to go for the scenery it's more for the fish.
beleive it or not though i grew up about 5 miles down the road in dinnington, i've never pike fished it but i did have lots of small roach scoffed when i was young.
are those chub still in there the uncatchable 5.
