Floater rod

Any suggestions for a floater rod and test curves.

By a 'floater' rod, you mean a carp rod for fishing with floating baits, I assume.

I did sell a Sportex Kev Float rod recently that had a 1½lbs TC, very nice and sweet action and like a few other things I've sold, kind of sorry I did now, but the house isn't big enough for everything.

In it's place I intend using a Greys G-Tec 12' (don't believe I'm going to say this) Specimen Carp Bagger (yuck, what a name!) Despite that name it is a nice rod and breaks down into four pieces with a round a 1¾+lbs TC. However, things being as they have I haven't yet tested it for that purpose, but with the onset of the silly season I tend to do more carp fishing then, so maybe soon. The rod is dicontinued now anyway, but anything close that you can find I'm sure will do the job.

That's the right sort of area you're aiming at - 1½ - 2lbs TC, nice and reasonably soft, but not too soft as you need to cast well with it also.

I use a 1.75tc barbel rod - bit heavy to hold all day but most of my floater sessions are a few hours in the evening

Floater fishing means light lines and small hooks, IMO alot of carp rods aren't massively suitable. I wouldn't want to be going above a 2lb TC that's for sure and I would only go that heavy if snags and weed where a real issue.

If there is only a handful of bigger fish and the water is open allowing the use of fine light lines I would be tempted by a heavy commerical/specimen float rod. If you need to go heavier then I'd opt for a barbel rod.

One of the 'old fashioned' carp rods with a TC of 1.75 - 2lb TC should be fine as long as it has a soft action and a forgiving tip to suit the light lines. Failing that as others have suggested a barbel rod will suffice in most situations.

For fishing fairly close with a floater I use an old favourite 2lb tc Drennan Powermesh Carp rod which has a lovely forgiving tip to middle action which doesn't lockup and has extra power further down for when it's needed.

I also use a Greys Specialist rod with the 2lb top section fitted which I find is also a good rod for close to medium range surface fishing without too much fear about the hook being pulled out when the Carp is fighting right under the rod tip.

I haven't used one of my Barbel rods for this but I should imagine that a 1.75lb one would be fine for fishing a floater for Carp.

I havent seen the Korum 1.7lb/2lb tc twin tip but it sounds like a great rod for floater fishing.

Greys Prodigy specimen 1.5 or 2lb tops, work well for floater fishing and margin work.

Daiwa tournament whisker kevlar 1.75lb test or 2 1/4lb test carp rod....only problem is they're as rare as rockin horse sheeeit.
