I hope this isn't a silly question. I've been doing much reading as I start pike fishing and am curious about the use of pop ups.

Pop ups seem to be mainly made of foam or cork. they come in anything from marble sized ball shapes to cigar shaped cork that's inserted through the entire dead baits body.

My concern is this, should a pike swallow a pop up item that is not then retrieved by the angler, would this not cause much harm and possibly be fatal?

Sometimes it's a good alternative to use a frozen natural such as roach which are super buoyant as long as the swim bladder is not damaged.
I use them in conjunction with a short paternostered link when fishing over a bed of short bottom weed.

This is good advice IMO.
