Does anyone buy fishing tackle from Ebay ?

I'm new to fishing and have a low budget so ebay is my go to place almost everything I buy for fishing is from ebay,
It gives me a bit of guilt about not supporting my local tackle shop, without them I cant get maggots, but alot of the things they sell I can find the exact on ebay cheaper,
If you know what you want and it's on Ebay at a good price, I see no reason not to buy it.

Yeah I buy stuff from eBay and Amazon. Ebays particularly good for older rods and reels etc
I prefer to buy from my local tackle shop if I can & I’ve found he can actually be cheaper than ebay once they start putting on P&P especially things like branded terminal tackle. For instance I bought some Guru hybrid feeders off him for £2.75 each couldn’t get them for less than that on eBay and I got to look at them and decide what sizes I wanted rather than just guess.
So a bit swings and roundabouts really.

My local tackle shop carry’s very little for lure fishing but it’s not my main passion in the sport so not a problem. Tbh I’m not much good with lures and rarely catch when I try.

I buy and sell lots of tackle on eBay and as long as your cr@p radar is tuned in, there’s lots of good stuff to be had at decent prices. I bought my JW Young Purist 2 centrepin for less than half retail from eBay and had some good Nikon camera lenses as well.
Having said that I’ve just sold a Daiwa sea multiplier and a guitar & amp (for my son) and I think both buyers may be time wasters.

I buy and sell through EBay buying mainly lures and old out of print fishing books books. If I could find a cheap courier I would put most of my rods for up for sale.

You and me too. I’ve just received a rod from Chris (Sam Vimes), he managed to get a price of £12-12 using Parcelforce 48. He did this at his post office. I can’t get much below thirty using Parcelforce online, I must go into my post office with same tube and find out how I get on.
Best I can get online is about £20 with UPS.

Have a look at ParcelMonkey who are a facilitator and get the best quote and then you use their best price recommendation and print out your own labels. I’ve done a few with them using Parcel Force 48 for 4 piece salmon rods and better prices than you can get by going through Parcel Force direct and you drop off at your local PO.

Nope you cannot leave neg feedback if you are a seller - another Ebay gem of a rule they introduced a while back when a group of monkeys took over the control centre and started randomly pushing buttons

I’d warn against watching the clock like this. If you get outbid late on there’s a massive temptation to bid again. Better to stick your price in and leave it til the next day.

I've bought good stuff on eBay and I've bought tat. You really do have to look very closely at items before pressing that "buy" button. Someone mentioned pike lures above; my experience with nice looking lures (and probably most other things too) is that they are not always what they seem and can sometimes be barely fit for purpose at all. My advice is to check that they are made by a decent manufacturer as imitations are likely to disappoint. If items originate in China I am also likely to pass on them in all cases.
One thing I will say is that eBay is often a good source for items that are hard or impossible to find in your local tackle shop - for example spares for older items of tackle or specific bits of specialist kit or terminal tackle.
I understand that not everyone is lucky enough to have a good tackle shop within reach and that not everyone has an unlimited budget, but if you spend £30 on eBay on a reel that isn't quite what you expected or wanted and you need to make lots of other savings for the finances to justify not just having gone to a proper tackle shop in the first place. And I'll be honest without naming my favourite local tackle shop, their prices are pretty competitive with eBay anyway. Furthermore, as a regular customer there, if I express interest in an item they're generally pretty likely to offer me an extra discount anyway. And then, of course, if it goes wrong I can just take it back....

I buy lots of things off eBay from rods and reels to lures and luggage. I have never had a problem which either eBay or PayPal didn't resolve immediately. I use Amazon a lot too with free and indecently quick delivery on prime.
My nearest Tackle shop is AD and i have bought lots from it but I also buy stuff from them on line with free and Speedy delivery . It's often quicker than waiting for the store to get it.
I like buying on line full stop ,indeed I'm addicted or so the postman and delivery drivers think all of whom will be coming to my daughters weddings.
There are bargains to be had, sellers to be wary of and rubbish to avoid. Practice makes perfect.

I have bought a couple of fishing bits from them, never had any trouble. If your not sure about an item you can send the seller a question about it first. Sold a few bits, a couple of mishaps but mostly gone OK but I have gone off selling on it, preferring auctions if viable for the item, it is a lot easier. Such a bloody palaver on eBay, I just take my stuff to an action house and then forget about it until they send me the cheque or just put it in my bank account.
It can be a way of looking up items to see what they might be worth as well but as the bloke on Pawn Stars usually says, that's what they are asking, are they getting that!
One new Chinese fly rod I bought from them was very good at the price so Chinese is not always a put off although I get that it might be sometimes.
