...but is the netting on the landing net legal....looks like that used back in the 60's to me-sort of similar to that used by the British Army...full of knots!

Probably a knotless modern day equivalent..but it does have a very open weave for a coarse fishing net(as used for trout fishing??)...must be me-out of date again!Looks perfect for fast running rivers!!

The rods a bit special though-must go for close on a £1000 these days-were £750ish the last time I looked(and cried a little)....

I saved the close-up and zoomed in on it. It doesn't appear to have any knots. Gary is pretty involved with a number of fishing clubs and I'm sure fish safety is a priority with him.

Gary tells me the Barder was a second-hand buy, but I imagine they still command a high price. It's hard to imagine anyone selling them ever, but a chap near me sold three on eBay year before last. I suspected alimony.

I have a couple of old style nets too, and it was quite a search to find something with a fishsafe tag that looked traditional too. There are still knotted game nets out there.
Eventually I found Dinsmores doing one, Gawd bless 'em. It is tri-angular, with a fine mesh base and coarse sides for fast running water...it looks fifty years old in jet black and was perfect.

And Snobee do a circular one that is unknotted.

I realise this thread has seen more than 6 years pass since it was added, but I thought it better to add to a relevant thread than just start another.

Does anyone know what is going on with the supply of Fuji reel seats to the retail sector, not the standard DPS ones but the likes of the KDPS (shown in early posts in this thread) and the DPS-HPS, in the UK?

Retailers in this country, unlike the multitudes seemingly available to American consumers, seem extremely thin on the ground as it is outside of Guides n Blanks / Hopkins and Holloway, which are the same company, and they've been out of stock for months on certain models, and instead of ever getting in new stock, seem to just add to the existing number of ranges already out of stock.

There seems to be an absolutely pitiful choice of retailers in this country, and the odd ones that do carry any form of a reel seat, are either limited to silver coloured hood varients, or ones in the 20mm+ sizes.

Guides/Hopkins don't even seem able to give even the broadest guestimate of when they may be re-stocking.

Any enlightenment or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm afraid I can't answer your question, what I will say is that Fuji reel seats and their damned noisy rings ain't all they're cracked up to be in the case of Hardy rods alone.

Probably sounds like a rant but when you pay for the best then you expect the best and they've fallen short imo.

I actually like fuji fittings. Imo there the best there are, or should I say the best i've seen. I also like the Kigan guides used by Harrisons.

I think the Hardys reel seats where their own contraptions.

I've never found the line going through the guides on my Hardys makes any noise (that I can remember). Do you mean you get noise with braid ? I think braid makes a horrible sound through any guides

No mate, they make a horrible noise (on not one but all eight) under heavy load with a reputable (here we go ) mono, usually when float fishing for some reason

In fairness it is always under heavy load, whether or not other rods do the same I don't know but I can't ever recall it prior to the Hardys.

I reckon the blanks are beyond question but the guides and reel seats could be held to account occasionally.

You know that sound when you have a single wrap around the rod tip but you can still reel in?

Well, it's a bit like that without the wrap around???
