Speedia Reel ... Handle Slightly Bent .....

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to how to go about straightening a handle on a Speedia reel which is slightly bent ...

it looks like one of the handles may have had a knock sometime over the last 30+ years or so and is slightly bent inwards by about 3mm : i.e. its about 3mm bent inwards / off straight from where it should be at the top of the reel handle.

Its not bent that much and I could probably put up with it (it adds character I keep telling myself ...) it but its a tad annoying and it would be nice if there was an easy fix which didn't risk either breaking the handle or damaging the spool.

It spins like a top with no wobble and so I don't want really want to try and force the riveted handle pin over and end up knackering the handle / plastic surround or bending the spool.

Was contemplating a 170 mile trip up to Redditch tomorrow - The annual Vintage Tackle Fair - where I believe there may well be a centrepin wizard who could work his magic but its a long round trip so I thought I would first ask the wise folk from Fishing Magic if they had any ideas ....

So ... any ideas or do I get the sat nav out for tomorrows trip ?

Is the handle connected via a screw through the outer face of the reel and into the handle?

If so, then it is probably the screw that is bent in which case it should be a simple matter of replacing it with a straight version?

No screw on the handle I am sad to say - It is riveted onto the actual spool ...

I see, then it is gong to be a case of drilling that rivet out an riveting a new straight one back in there.

I'm not sure if anyone at the Vintage Fair will be ale to do that on site but more likely you will have to leave the reel . . . . .

If the spool is currently running true then do not try to bend the handle straight - you could bend the spool or perhaps force the rivet out.

As Peter says the rivet needs drilling out.

Unless you are confident that you can carry out a good repair I'd take it or post is to a centrepin specialist.

Look Mill Tackle up on google, Gary Mills will sort that out easy enough and he doesn't charge much.

Thanks for all your replies ... am tempted to get the sat nav out and make the trip to Redditch tomorrow as I think Gary from Mill Tackle may well be going along and could hopefully take a look at it.
