Beach Fishing in / near Portsmouth

Can anyone point me im th eright direction for good shore marks in the Portsmouth area? I've just moved to Portsmouth with work and don't know the area very well so any advice would be welcome.

I think Hayling Island has some decent marks, have a word with the local blokes in those shops you asked about, you can't beat local knowledge. If Steve Gold still runs the Top Cat out of Langstone harbour you can get some good days out with him too.

Thanks Geoff - much appreciated. i think I read somewhere that Hayling (and other marks around Portsmouth) are good for smoothound. What time of year can they be caught from the shore?

There are some good tackle shops in the city. South Parade Pier is a good spot, Eastney is good for Plaice , I think there is some marks in Old Portsmouth as well.
