Tackle dealers will tell you that Abu multipliers that are now all produced in China aren’t as good as the Swedish ones.

Mmm, maybe they're right. I know that the chink's can make equally as high a quality product if instructed to do so, maybe the company has decided to cut costs all round and are happy to produce a lesser quality product.
I'm glad mine have made in sweden stamped into them :).
just looked at the boxes and my reels are....

Ambassadeur 7000C4 LD

Ambassadeur 7500C3

Ambassadeur 5501C3....this one is only small and has a laft hand wind :).

Abu 7500 CS with levelwind is a great wrecking reel.

Yeaph, they all have the level wind on em. I just used the larger two for beachcasting, i'm not sure that the level wind slowed my cast down so much and I managed to get out to where the bass whewhich was all I needed.
The little one is great for shorter beach fishing also but it was good for trotting at the moth of the inland sea and one or two other smaller inlets I knew, it being a left hand wind was good also.
I've not used em for years and i've nearly ebayed em on many occasions only to think i'd regret it when/if I do decide to go and do a bit of sea fishing.

Appart from my ugly stick :), I have a 12 or 13ft greys beachcaster and a daiwa supercast of about 11ft.

Made up a pile of shore rigs using the no-crimps method and I must say I’m very impressed with them.

Crimps broadly fall into two categories - the short, hard grey or black ones, that need a lot of force from specialised crimping pliers to attach to the line and longer copper crimps that can be easily squeezed on with normal long nosed pliers. I always used to use the latter but now I’ll only use the neoprene ones.

Incidentally, if you buy some smaller 1mm neoprene tubing and cut it into 3mm lengths, you can use the same technique to make coarse fishing float and leger stops.

Isn't neoprene bouyant though?
