Re: How did you get on?

Finally managed to get an hour by the river this morning. Still flowing well and a little high. Banked 1 chub, lost another to a snapped hook length. Trotted bread flake on a stick float. Nice hour...

    Tackle made in the UK

Looking through my kit, I honestly think that the only tackle I have that is UK made is the floats I’ve made myself ! Everything else I’m assuming is manufactured outside and imported in.
    It would...

Re: Floating baits on a feeder rig

I punch a load out at home and let them dry, really dry. Then put them in an airtight bag. You can hair rig 3-4 and get a big fluffy bait after a few minutes of it being back in the water. Saved me...

Floating baits on a feeder rig

Warburtons is usually the best I find, nice and fresh it has a good doughy texture that holds on the hook well.
Have a look at this link. I’ve used the fold in half method and works very well for...

Re: The cost of your fishing.

My club ticket cost £65 this year incl £10 joining fee. Gets me access to 12 ponds over 2 sites, another somewhere and a bit of river, plus a Leicester Amalgam ticket which covers a fair amount of...

    Re: How local is local

My club waters are 12 miles so about 25 minutes drive. I’ve a canal and it’s back water about 10 minutes drive which is not bad fishing either tbh.

Re: When to strike when float fishing for Pike.

Some great ideas folks. I’ve got some forceps and long wire cutters from my lure fishing which have been ok so far. I need to start making my own traces I’ve a few for lures but nothing for dead...

Re: When to strike when float fishing for Pike.

John yes thank you I think that makes sense. It sounds a bit like when you get run from a carp on the feeder. You just give enough tension to hook itself rather than a conventional strike.

Re: When to strike when float fishing for Pike.

Thanks Phil for the information, I’d much rather miss a fish than deep hook one. That’s why I thought I’d ask. I don’t know any pike anglers except one who’s too ill to fish these days.
  10. Foul hooked on a hair rigged boilie fished off the bottom?

I’ve foul hooked a few on the bottom this year, mostly when using a hair rig.
My thoughts where, the fish or fishes where digging about or swimming around the baited area causing the bait to lift...

Re: When to strike when float fishing for Pike.

Thanks, that’s great advice. I’d read somewhere the other day about keeping the trebles close together and I understand why now.
I’m thinking of trying mackerel tail or something to start with.

Re: Ever fallen out with the hooks you use.

Interesting John, I’m pretty sure the one I had today was lip hooked, I’d almost got it to the net when it slipped off. However until you’ve got it on the bank you can never be 100% sure, and...

Re: Ever fallen out with the hooks you use.

Funny this topic came up, for the second time ever I’ve had a hook open up on me this afternoon. Pretty sure it was a Kamasan. The fish was a ghost carp probably around 6lb. I had it happen a few...
