Re: Tackle made in the UK

TBH I don’t really care where things are actually made if the label is that of a British company and the product helps out a British firm. I’ve got a Hardy 14’ salmon fly rod, a Hardy Demon cassette...

Re: Chinese tackle and free rod giveaway

Thing about fly rods is, how did your £12 rod cast? Also, and I am a fly fisherman, virtually all fly rods (even cheapos) now come in 4 pieces and 2 and 3 piece fly rods are a relative rarity.

    Re: Bargains. Let us know.

Popped into Harrison’s on Friday to buy a rod bag for the GTi as the one with it was rotted. Got a very nice Velcro jobbie for £9 and was reminded (as I’d forgotten) that my 14ft MAP Dave Harrell...

LED Lenser H7R.2. It’s light, powerful and can adjust from a flood for re-baiting or moving around your peg or walking to and from your car, to a searchlight beam that will illuminate for 100m+

Forget the Maver, got a secondhand Harrison GTi 12ft, 3 piece with spliced tip and it’s beautiful!

I know you were only joking Mike, the Acolyte was the Ultra. Quality feel to it but I’d still prefer the Harrison that I got (price notwithstanding)

Ray’s Tackle, 22 Childwall Lane, Liverpool, L14 6TX. He hasn’t got any more as it was one of his personal rods.

While I’m on the subject of rods, I was VERY impressed with the 12ft 2piece Acolyte...

    Re: Scierra boot waders

I haven’t had bootfoot waders for around 20+ yrs as I buy breathable waders and separate boots. The general wisdom for waders is to buy one size larger than your foot size to allow for thick socks....

No you shall not! It will be revered item in my small, but select, collection of rods and not be lost in the bamboo forest of your rod room!

    Re: Bargains. Let us know.

BARGAIN OF THE YEAR, was had today at my local tackle dealer’s. Went in looking for a 3pce 12ft match rod and looked at an older DAM that was very nice but was also 13ft. Also waggled a Maver Abyss...

Re: Maver Reality 3pce 12ft Match Rod

Thanks Hertsbloke. I’d thought of the 11ft 2pce as I like 11ft rods and leaving them tackled up in a sleeve is a good option. However I think that 3 piece is more of a “traditional” float rod and...

Maver Reality 3pce 12ft Match Rod

These are only budget rods but have had good reviews. I’m thinking of getting one for a bit of waggler fishing on my club lake and 12ft will be the ideal length for me to use on there.

    Anyone else...

    Re: Bargains. Let us know.

Just passed on what looked like a great bargain from Cash Generator. MAP Matchtek 13/17ft Commercial rod for £24.99. Seemed in great nick with a lovely, fine tip and it would do me for waggler and...

I have been wanting, for a long time, to see Crested t!ts up on Speyside. But never succeeded mostly due to the pressures of fishing and not being in the right place.

Re: Centre pin for a beginner

Wouldn’t hold up Wallis casting as the be all and end all for a beginner to master. I used a centrepin from the age of 5 to around 18 and never learned the Wallis Cast. Just pulling loops from 3 or 4...

    Re: Bargains. Let us know.

Today’s bounty from Cash Generator £10 each and they are doing a promotion of 30% reduction on fishing tackle. So that’s a cool £7 each.

Bit of a clean up and we’ll see what The Bay makes of them!...

Advances in bearings, alloys and machining mean that a £60 budget pin can be technically superior, weigh less and turn better than an old JW Young. A new £25 carbon Shakespeare rod will be a better...

Re: Centre pin for a beginner

The TFG Classic is cheap, (£59.99) has an optional extra lineguard (£15.00) and rotates freely and smoothly. I’ve had one a couple of years ago and I know they’ll do the job well.

    I’ve also had a...

I like the funky looking Okuma Raw and, if I didn’t have the Purist 2, I’d get one like a shot.

Where I fish you don’t need to Wallis cast and a 4-fingered loop cast usually suffices. Just as...
