Re: Same strength mainline and hooklength question.
I know of 2 well known anglers that use braid nowhere near the 25lb stuff for hooklengths, not using it for carp as far as I am aware.

Bivvied up in overnight temperature of minus 7, up all night boiling the kettle to use as a hot water bottle, line frozen in ice in the morning, not something I ever repeated.

Yes I agree, it is impossible to answer, also the river/lake sea should be separate as the sea washes litter up from far away be it anglers or not.

I sometimes tie eyed hooks with a spade end knot and then thread the line through the eye to kick the hook out.

Re: Supermarket baits
Morrisons sometimes have line caught Mackerel that are just the right size for full or half baits, if you ask the fishmonger he will know when they are having them in.

Re: day ticket fishing on the trent also b/b
I would advise waiting until the Trent has received a good amount of water as at the moment its extremely low and gin clear unless you plan to fish afternoons into darkness.

Yes look at Morrisons fish counter, I dont know about other places other than our local Tesco where the fish look as if they have been on the slab longer than they were in the water.
