    Re: Slowing down

Insightful and thoughtful post Clod. You should post more frequently.

    Monday morning quarterbacks, less so.

    Re: Supporting local tackle shop

Agree with the local shop sentiments.

About 90% of my spend is in ‘proper’ tackle shops and 90% of that is in my local shop. Long may that continue.

    Re: Clutch or backwind

I am surprised that the backwind disciples have not mentioned the risk of a full blooded run where a hands off approach to a whirring handle leading to overrun and subsequent snap off.

    Re: Prebaiting advice please

A lightly fished 20 acre lake is a good candidate for pre baiting.

Let us know how you get on.

    Re: Clutch or backwind

Modern Shimano clutches are so good that I am always happy to rely on them.

Is there a better feeling (outside of the bedroom) than seeing and feeling a through action rod take on a severe battle...

    Re: How was your Season?

A mixed year indeed. Great summer and autumn, but winter was rather average, primarily because of the floods. Nonetheless still really enjoyable and loving getting out on the bank for some quality...

    Re: River Itchen/Stour etc

Itchen, Test, Stour and Avon all in the fields. Very few good access points.
  8. Re: Oy-vey! From Tackle & Guns Magazine- re: Angling Direct

I have no particular view on atmosphere or whether AD should run a shop in town A or B, but it is quite normal to post losses during an acquisitive period, especially if those acquisitions are funded...

    Re: Fish finder RC boats

A bait boat is unlikely to have the gumption to even set the hooks of a lure let alone land a fish.

    Re: New Club extra costs

This is about maximising revenue from a limited number of members and why not? Should the Sunday afternoon pleasure angler pay the same as a ‘career’ angler who spends weeks on a given venue.

  11. Re: What was your first fish and where did you catch It ?

A salmon parr caught on maggot from the Avon running through QE Gardens in Salisbury. All of 2oz,

But was followed that same day by a 1 1/2 lb grayling, and I was hooked!!!

Re: Disgorger for deep hooked Perch

Agreed. Lure fishing in general has never resulted in a deep hooked fish of any species in decades of doing it.

    Re: Which head torch

Avoid angling specific offerings, they are overpriced mediocrity.

Go to B&Q and buy a fairly priced unit that is perfectly functional. I have been using an Ever Ready unit for many years and it...

Re: Tackle shop mark up on boilies

The notion that any retail operation that does not understand the profit of the different products is preposterous. Unless of course if the retailer is clueless, in which case they won’t last too...

    Re: Baitcasters

I use an ABU Baitcaster very regularly, it is paired with a 60-100g 9Ft lure rod and they work great together. Must confess that many of the lures are closer to150g but still works well.

    When lure...
