    Re: Fresh start

Hello Andy and Welcome to FishingMagic.

While many of the current vogue methods might seem a little daunting just remember that the methods you used in the past will STILL catch fish.

    A decent...

    Re: Loop knot

I always wet all knots, even loops.

The danger is that a dry knot on tightening can "burn" and thereby weaken the line.
  4. Re: if you could fish ANYWHERE in the world for 2 weeks???

This thread was started in 2008 and there are some lovely reminders of a few of the past members reading back.

I was very fortunate in my working career as it took me all over the world so I got...

    Re: Anyone fishing?

Absolutely not due to rising levels and the cold.

The Hampshire Avon was rising fast earlier so it is really not a safe thing to do right now.

Re: Using tackle how you like.

I know a number of excellent river anglers who use a bolo' style pole float and an olivette with a few dropper shot for trotting.

Re: The lack of good fishing articles.

It is very difficult to combine a good writing style with angling knowledge, and while many have tried over the years, only a few have succeeded . . . but then we all have our own ideas as to what...

    Re: Too much bait?

On a small (known) natural venue I would start off with just 2 or 3 jaffa sized balls of groundbait with a small quantity of my hook baits incorporated.

Then wait and taking the advice of Jan...

    Re: Accessory chair.

I have the Koram versions and have never had any problems. They take a vast array of rests and side trays or bowls and are well worth the money.

    Re: Horlicks as a binder

I have used Sticky-mag almost expensively over the years but did try Horlicks once ubt I found it too sticky to be honest.

With Sticky-mag I simply wet my hand and shake off the excess then rub...

    Re: Ground bait

Collant is/was made by van den Eynde I think.
It was quite sticky with a seemingly large sweet (brown sugar?) content which as such helped it take a lot of loose feed.
  12. Re: New UK Fisheries Bill starts process to become law

I've been reading the proposed government Environment Bill 2020 and have to say that, like the
Fisheries Bill and the Agriculrure Bill, there are a lot of loopholes as well as some lost oversight...

    Re: Ground bait

Mike, for roach I would always use Sensas Gros Gardons in either the black (noire) or the natural colour. I've used it for many years but when mixing I riddle out the larger pieces and soak these...

    Re: Line for trotting

I've used Drennan Float fish for many years and never had any real problems with it when trotting . . . . it is inexpensive, available all over and has stood the test of time.
  15. Re: If you target a certain species of fish.....

There are a few tench on th Britford stretch of the Hampshire Avon. They seemingly washed in together with a few carp when the Petersfinger lakes flooded some years back.

    Thet do seem to have...
  16. Re: Angling Club's dismay at Environment Agency's lack of action over fishing lake po

It looks on the face of it that the EA are trying very hard to avoid beboming embroiled in an obviously potential litigation . . . .
  17. Re: If you target a certain species of fish.....

I guess we are all different and whatever floats our boart at any given time is fine and dandy.

Personally I spent almost a decade fishing for Carp and Tench to the excusion of everythig else.

  21. Re: Is it camping or fishing a bivvy or a tent

I would disagree on it being over rated, as in my experience hemp and caster or hemp and tares can be very successful bait combinations.
