Re: Spare part for rod repair

Hardy’s, like Shakespeare, are now owned by Pure Fishing. In 2018 I snapped my Shakespeare Scandi salmon rod trying to net a fish. A mate gave me the number of a firm called K.P. Spares and I got a...
  2. Re: Where will you go and what Tackle will you use when........

MAP are okay but the Middy ones are so simple, just drill a 5mm hole in one of the strengthened sections that they have for that stupid Elastigate system and just push the bush in and it clicks...
  3. Re: Where will you go and what Tackle will you use when........

That’s still my only pole, Mark. Bought the extension to take it to 10m and another top kit and put in Middy PTFE bushes (very neat and easy to install) for side pullers. Don’t need more than 10m...

    Re: Supporting local tackle shop

Everything you said happens at my local tackle shop Kev, including getting the height of abuse as soon as you walk through the door! One great delight is the war of attrition with the owner caused by...

    Re: Supporting local tackle shop

I think in this day and age, that a bi-partisan approach is needed. Many small tackle shops don’t carry the huge ranges of tackle that can be found online. I’ve got a great tackle Shop in Ray’s...

How about a cheap archery quiver that will go over your shoulder? Loads on Fleabay from a tenner upwards.
  8. Re: Why not have lure fishing at Farmoor reservoir?

Just use the triangle icon, bottom left, to report the posts you don’t like. The Mods pretty much have their finger on the pulse but they don’t see everything. Complain about the Troll and he won’t...

Well, you would say that wouldn’t you?
  10. Re: Why not have lure fishing at Farmoor reservoir?

I repeat, why is anyone debating with him? Causing controversy is oxygen to trolls. Ignore him and he’ll get fed up and go away.

Just think how much more efficient backwinding would be with a double handled reel? :wh

    Re: Clutch or backwind

Had my knuckles badly rapped on a few occasions when connected to a salmon on a double-handed rod. Drags on fly reels are useful to gradually wear a salmon down and to save your knuckles.

    Re: Clutch or backwind

My dad bought me my first fishing outfit from the Grattan catalogue for one and six a week on the drip. It had a 9ft rod with bottom 2 sections bamboo cane and a lancewood tip. The reel was a...

    Re: Clutch or backwind

Don’t all fixed spool reels have a backwinding facility, you just flip the anti-reverse off? I tend to buy decent reels with front drags and use the drag for what it’s designed for. If I was using...
  15. Re: Why not have lure fishing at Farmoor reservoir?

Why is everyone arguing with the troll? Lure fishing isn’t allowed on Farmoor so balls to him!

Re: Are you still buying new tackle?

Have you checked eBay? I went on looking for a replacement 36” net and ended up just buying a whole new head. I’m sure I saw replacement meshes for smaller nets, including those rubber things that...

    Re: Stick floats on winders

For a start I said “you generally set depth for 6ft” so, rivers being rivers, they can rise and that’s often when the best trotting is done so 9ft covers different levels and the depths of different...

    Re: Stick floats on winders

Well, it’s a Drennan Loafer so it’s in the stick float family in that it’s attached top and bottom and used for trotting. Just a progression, in modern materials, from floats like the Max Winters Big...
