    Re: Stillwater phenomenan

That algae bloom happens every spring on a couple of trout lakes I pass on one particular coarse complex much to the annoyance of the feather chuckers.

    Re: Cane Rods

I only have one. Its the first proper rod I ever had. It is an 11 foot Edgar Sealey Octofloat. No mention when I bought it of test curves etc. It was a rod for everything as we did in those days....
  3. Re: TF Gear 10ft Compact Float Rod : Any users?

10 foot might be a tad short for trotting. As its for camping, would one of the rods that have more sections for ease of stowage be better?

    Re: Barbel on Minnows

I sat beside the weir apron at Appleford on the Thames many years ago watching bleak scattering as what I thought was a pike attacking.
After a while I was able to see it was barbel eating them.

Re: Frozen maggots are they any good?.

Just buy them without the added maize meal. Decant into sandwich bags. Squeeze air out and tie a knot. Freeze whilst alive. Freeze small batches for this minnow purpose. Minnows aint fussy.
  8. Re: New float rod Daiwa Powermesh 12ft or Greys Toreon 13ft

Unfortunately the type of fishing you envisage from those 30 years ago is not so common now.
The lighter action traditional match rods are not so plentiful. There are some about but not so many in...

Re: Frozen maggots are they any good?.

    In short...yes.
Being a round trip to a tackle shop of about 40 miles makes sense to buy in bulk and freeze the maggots.
I am certainly no Ivan Marks but I catch a fish now and again. Often on...

Yes you are right but I thought this might be worth mentioning for someone who needs something they are not too bothered about jossling on some stony bank with the kids on hols.
