    Good man.

Isobel maybe smarter than you think, “don’t tell strangers where you live” I’d like to think that anyway.

Re: Advice for trout fishing in rivers

    I’m hijacking the thread slightly.

Is trout fishing seasonal? I ask because there is a trout section on the Canterbury Stour controlled by my club which is fly fishing only but from November 1st...

    Re: Helicopter rigs

The thing is, it’s not only on the retrieve. I was swinging the feeder out underarm just a few metres out, as I was preparing to swing I could see the hooklength twizzling around the mainline, I was...

    Re: Helicopter rigs

Thanks for all the advice. My hooklength has been rotating freely, I had thought about using a much stiffer fluoro length, just seems all wrong for roach, I’ll experiment with it and I’ll retrieve...

    Helicopter rigs

I meant to mention this in my recent HDYGO post. Spent a while doing something quite alien to me today, feeder fishing. Fishing primarily for roach I used a helicopter rig like this....

Re: How did you get on?

A double header today, freshwater, saltwater.

I had planned a day on the river yesterday but in view of the sad circumstances it seemed all wrong and I didn’t want to be in the way of any search...

Re: Coarse closed season to remain

Bother. Needed that change, my years of being able to safely fish a river are dwindling.

    Re: Shorter rod thoughts.

Do you know anyone living near Stoke Mark?

I have one of these Shimano BeastMaster 9ft /11ft combi float rods, it’s just the ticket when I’m chubbing on the Canterbury Stour where a shorter rod is...

Ive also noticed Flight that if a bream gets the slightest bit of hybridisation it fights so much harder.

Re: Fishing the Thames near Maidenhead

I cannot begin to imagine as a parent how you could enjoy a fishing session by the river with such young toddlers, you’re not being over protective at all, I’m sure that poor father of Lucas let him...
  16. Re: Light reel with qr spools for canals and light carping?

That Daiwa looks a serious bargain, with a spare spool too.
  17. Re: Light reel with qr spools for canals and light carping?

Will you be targeting carp on the canal or fishing for silvers?

I ask because if you want to fish for both carp and silvers you will need two spools with different breaking strains, light for...
  18. Re: Light reel with qr spools for canals and light carping?

Fishing a canal can be somewhat different to carping, when you say “light carping” what exactly do you mean?

Re: Best butt rest for floater fishing

It’s an exciting way to fish, just about the only time I’d target carp but the bird life is a serious problem in most the waters I fish, infact one local day ticket water has banned any form of...

Re: Best butt rest for floater fishing

You need to come and fish in my neck of the woods Mike. The gulls are trained to an Olympic standard, they get all the practice they need when the DFL’s are visiting for the weekend or school...

Re: Best butt rest for floater fishing

Other reasons I’ve never used a rest for this method, if the venue allows I would be stalking looking to drop a bait on the nose of an unsuspecting carp. Also I prefer to stand up, behind some cover...

Re: Best butt rest for floater fishing

A baitrunner option is better but I still wouldn’t be quick enough for a swooping gull. As soon as you lay a rod in a rest it is all too easy to get distracted, pour a drink maybe.

Re: Best butt rest for floater fishing

Simon is right Mike, I’m the laziest angler but would never put the rod in a rest when surface fishing, not just the risk of losing your rod to a carp but you have to be quick if a bird swoops down...
