Re: The greatest worry for mankind

Back in the summer of 2018 I did a couple of kick samples on the shallows on the Dorset Stour. I'd done similar about 15 years ago . I was amazed how little insect life there was in the weed beds...

Re: Why didn’t I think of this before!

I just tried the one Match that has a foot I shortened and that's perfect. The rod I have is the TDX 13M. I don't want to modify my other Matches as it's not that easy. The original 300 was 3.5:1,...

Re: Why didn’t I think of this before!

I've got the Daiwa TDX with the Tournament seat; it's lovely rod and exceptional for playing fish - I've landed a 23lb carp on mine - but there's a gap with the longer reel foot of the Mitchell...
  4. Re: Daiwa Amorphous Tournamnet Match 13s(ATM13S)

The Amorphous Tournament Match is one of the best stick float rods from its era which was the 90s and still a great rod. I've got the cheaper version which was £165 in 1992 as opposed to about £270...
  5. Re: Recommendations for a 13ft stick float rod for roach fishing.

I've waggled and fished with a few Drennan float rods and they just don't feel right to me. When the Acolytes came out Andy Browne of Avon Angling tried hard to sell me one but it lacked 'crispness',...
  6. Re: Length of line between end of pole and float

You're obviously after lots of pole fishing info. Second hand copies of the pole fishing book I did are on ebay/Amazon for as little as a fiver posted (i get nothing from these sales as it is out of...
  7. Re: Recommendations for a 13ft stick float rod for roach fishing.

I've shown this before - a cork modified Fuji fitting that is very comfortable to use and my version of the Suveran.

  8. Re: Recommendations for a 13ft stick float rod for roach fishing.

The inner tube is moved on and off to fix the clip on plastic so no sure if the tape would work. I am going to see if I can design a reverse hood in cork for this rod. The forecast is wet on Tuesday...
  9. Re: Recommendations for a 13ft stick float rod for roach fishing.

I think Daiwa patented the Armlock and the 20 year patent has now run out so other manufacturers are doing the same; I like this type of handle and three of my Normarks have my version.
  10. Re: Recommendations for a 13ft stick float rod for roach fishing.

I'm going to blame him, too... I'm desperately resisting buying a 13' 6" Sphere. I don't need it, I DO NOT NEED IT!!!!

The Daiwa Amorphous Whisker or Match 13' stick float rods are lovely for...
  11. Re: Learning some video skills; roach fishing on the Stour

For the 16s and 14s for bread for roach usually Preston Power line in 0.10mm which is probably 0.11 but still fine. In summer I use 0.08 for tares on a 16 fine wire barbless.
  12. Re: Learning some video skills; roach fishing on the Stour

The rods I prefer are 13ft and are ideal for the fishing I do. I own a couple of 14ft rods but they're not in the same league as some of the 13ft ones. I have fished that swim with an 18ft rod right...
  13. Re: Learning some video skills; roach fishing on the Stour

For the flow and presentation I want that size of float is just about right. It's over 10ft deep there, deeper still out in the middle. I want to float to go down in a straight line. A mate fishing...
  14. Re: Learning some video skills; roach fishing on the Stour

I get far less backache standing up trotting than I ever do sat on a box, lovely active fishing. Yesterday's rain put the river on the rise again so some sitting down later on a stillwater.
  15. Learning some video skills; roach fishing on the Stour

I've been attempting to put together some videos on Youtube with varying success. I should have a cameraman soon and my editing skills are coming on. Here's a recent session:

Glad you enjoyed it; I relocated my cameraman last night, we retired at the same time and he did a lot of photography with me but he had to go back to work for a few year and the good news is that he...

    Re: River rights

There is a general right of navigation on tidal waters. Also generally on tidal waters the landowners may grant bank access rights to angling clubs but it is free to fish from a boat EXCEPT in cases...

    Re: Bargains. Let us know.

It's worth about a tenner as it's very shallow! RDAA had that field plus about three miles all the way from Corfe Mullen to Spetisbury many years ago. There were very few fish in most of it though...

Re: Global warming? Oh no not again!!!

I think 'Climate Change' has become a quasi-religion. Its adherents use and misuse facts to further their claims, those who refute them are treated as heretics ('deniers'), and they even have their...

Re: How did you get on?

I hedged my bets today. Although I wanted to revisit a stillwater I last fished 18 months ago I also wondered whetehr I could just about get on the high and steaming Stour. I took maggots and a pole...

Re: How did you get on?

Yesterday I followed the flooded Dorset Stour up to the headwaters then had four hours on one of the Todber match ponds. There was a match on two of the ponds and although my preferred pond was free...
  24. Re: Basic pole rig for small fish skimmers/silvers?

As tangles are going to be par for the course a little waggler, 3BB locking(?), (no looping on itself that you get with normal pole floats) with just a single shot (no.4) down the line, maybe a foot...
