    Re: Elastics

I’d say 10-12 slik should really be labelled 8-10, and that’s a little light for my taste in fishing paste? What hooklengths are you marrying it up with?

    Re: Elastics

    Hi Kev
I’m possibly the worse person to ask as I don’t use ‘traditional’ solid elastic. However I’d say it must be more akin to hollow than solid. I have side pullas on all my kits and wouldn’t...

    Re: Elastics

    Wow!

I’m not sure I could cope with all that choice!

My mantra is keep it simple and hence I have one pole with 3 elastics and that’s it.

Since returning to fishing a few short years ago...

Re: How did you get on?

    What did you go for?

I have twelve top kits and I’m looking at 4, 1.4mm hybrid. 0.09 to 0.11 fine wire.
    4, 1.8mm hybrid, 0.13 to 0.15 general hooks and
    4, 2.2 hybrid. 0.17 to 0.20 heavy hooks....

Not much more to add than the guys above have said.

I think you would be better with a pole rather than a whip!

    Re: Ground bait

Must be around 30 years since I used Expo! I do recall it being an excellent tench gb back in the day. I rarely target tench these days, though I do catch a few, but I might get some expo for old...

    Re: Horlicks as a binder

Have tried horlicks as a binder for micros on a method feeder on a venue where groundbait is not allowed and the fishery pellets were poor. Works well but you have to be careful not to overdo it, or...

I’ll check that out, reserving my river exploits to when they’re in decent condition, which doesn’t seem to be too often lately!

Re: How did you get on?

I’ve only been twice and have yet to make up my mind. There’s a great video of James Robbins catching Winter roach there on YouTube, cadence channel.

    Haven’t quite emulated that yet!

Page 1462 and my first appearance! Better late than never.

Had an urge to fish the maggot feeder for silvers on a relatively local commie. Not something I regularly do, in fact I’m not much of a...

    Re: River feeder rod

Yes you’re right, I think the Dee is a unique river, deep and fast in the lower stretches.

Back in the days when I used to fish it more regularly the main tactic was a tiny feeder (we used to make...

    That’s assuming you’re catching carp!

I’m out on a commie today, fishing maggot feeder for silvers, a different ball game altogether.

I catch plenty of carp but don’t own a baitrunner, I do...

    Re: River feeder rod

If I’m quite honest, I’m not even sure what tips I have, on commies I only ever use the lightest ones! Bite detection, casting and cushioning the feeder on landing being the factors in play.

    I’ll...

    Re: River feeder rod

I think my issue is about stiffness of the tip in flowing water. The two rods I have are pretty lightweight, even for commercials, though I’ve had decent weights and double figure individual fish on...

    Re: River feeder rod

I fish the Dee in Chester which is free as is a section at Farndon, I’ve fished the Northwich section of the Dane on a day ticket. My in laws live in Leftwich, so I fish there when I stay with them....
