Re: 17' Acolyte short video

Minor snag being that he's using a Shimano reel in the video.

Re: 17' Acolyte short video

As much as I like using them, I wouldn't tell Joe Bloggs he should have used a pin, let alone Alan Scotthorne. I'd certainly never expect to see a matchman using one. If I'd have stuck with match...

Re: How did you get on?

Late out of bed, dismal weather, something in the post that demanded my attention. It wasn't until after 1400 that I looked out to see a cloud bank rolling away leaving clear sky and light winds....

Re: 17' Acolyte short video

I suspect that Drennan (or the competition) had simply used just about every viable variation and combination of words with "light" or "lite" in them. Time to move onto words with "lyte" in them to...

Re: Steve Maher Floats

Pretty sure that DAC has the Harrell rubbers in stock. That should give you the perfect sizes.

As soon as the shop got them in I was there.;)

Re: 17' Acolyte short video

I've had 17' rods for quite some time, but the 17' Acolyte only turned up in the shops last week. I've been waiting for it for the best part of two years.

Re: Steve Maher Floats

I'm pretty sure both Northallerton Angling and Darlington Angling Centre had at least the odd Maher float in last time I looked. DAC has a better selection of Dave Harrell floats too.

Re: Small stream chub fishing

Yes, one or two feet would constitute a deep swim on some of the becks and small rivers I fish.

Re: More rods .Hummmmm

Unless you are fishing really deep stillwaters, or rivers with enough room to use them, you don't need 15/17' rods at all. Even if you are doing either, there are ways to avoid the need for long...

Re: Closed or open face reels

Matt,
as much as I like pins, and still have a soft spot for closed face reels despite barely using them now, I'm not advocating you buy anything new. Just use your existing fixed spool reels to...

Re: 17' Acolyte short video

Dalesman,
had you been down at the river yesterday you'd not have needed to watch the video.;)

Don't rush to swap a 14' Plus for the Acolyte 17' though. It's a bit more Ultra than Plus. A...

Re: Closed or open face reels

That rather depends on the reel in question.

Re: More rods .Hummmmm

Neither do I, it's just the getting rid of bit that seems to elude me.:o
I am coming round to the fact that I need to sell some gear. I've even gone as far as separating out the redundant rods....

Re: Local tackle shop

I suspect that the idea that your local shop ceases to be a local shop when taken over is a little wide of the mark. I only know one personally, but to a great extent the staff remained the same....

Re: Local tackle shop

My nearest Angling Direct is over 90 miles away. My nearest Fishing Republic is over 40 miles away. I've the odd bit and bat from AD quite a few years ago. I've never knowingly bought a thing from...

Re: More rods .Hummmmm

Only if you have a wife, or can no longer get through your door, is it possible to have too many rods.

Re: Closed or open face reels

I maintain a certain fondness for closed face reels after using them for many years. However, they rarely see the light of day now. In half decent conditions, they do nothing better than a standard...

Re: Closed or open face reels

A decent closed face reel shouldn't make life harder when trotting. However, one with issues might. Worth bearing in mind that the drags, if they have them, on closed face reels are invariably poor....

Re: How did you get on?

I don't normally go on a Saturday or Sunday. I prefer to let the poor unfortunate workers have their turn while I have a rest, watch/listen to some sport and do the family thing (scrounge free...

Re: winter fishing

Winter is the time for being selective with your target species, venues and the times you go. Some waters and some species are just too much like hard work once winter starts to bite. Even decent...

Re: Tackle/Float Boxes - Wood V Plastic

No doubt about it, real wood looks lovely. However, the reality is that plastic is lighter, isn't affected by water and is generally more functional.

Skill,
only Terry Dawson is still a member of the forum. He hasn't been active since 2005. You are unlikely to get a response from any of the original posters on the thread. You may be better...

Re: How did you get on?

Helped with the stocking of a few fish early in the afternoon. Was left with an hour or so to waste a few maggots on the river. Only just worth the effort with one grayling and a couple of parr. It...
