Re: Help required fishing a specimen lake

If its 100m long x 40m.wide and little showing I would be tempted to hedge my bets if there are very few others fishing. Setup near the middle and spread rods from shallow to deep casting to any...

    Re: Coarse fishing in Brittany

In terms of rivers many of the rivers in Brittany are considered category 1 which is trout/salmon. The Blavet does have coarse fish , the usual species. On the faster streaches a trotting / roving...

Re: Help required fishing a specimen lake

    I dont see any picture.

How big / deep is the lake? If its small and not very exposed wind is unlikly to have allot of influence.

Is there allot of angling pressure ?

    I would go with bolies...

Of course there are no hard & fast rules but I think its fair to say traditional angling is generally less succsessful than modern angling. Traditional anglers also tend to spend allot of time...

I dont know the Trent but sometimes just a change of position can solve the issue. I recall one swim on the Wye that was basically a fallen tree over an undercut bank. Everyone would try and fish it...

Had a Carp on a bare hook once...left the unbaited rod in the edge while i setup.a second rod. Suddenly it started to pull round so i grabbed it and after a good tussle landed a resonable Carp...

    Re: Why go Fishing?

As I mentioned before perhaps its because they see it as part of a bigger picture.

Why train to run a marathon ? ...cant be pleasant can it..but people do it ...why ? ...because they want to run...

    Re: Homemade boilie basemix advice

No but x y & Z might make them work even better ;)

I dont mix my own baits anymore. Too time consuming. Now I let the bait companies worry about the ingredients and I concentrate on the fishing.

    Re: Why go Fishing?

I have gone fishing for reasons other than pleasure. Not so much nowadays but sometimes its about achieving something, a target fish for example. The end result can be deemed « pleasurable » I...
  12. Re: Returned to fishing? What changes have you noticed?

The size of hook alone makes very little difference to mouth damage.

The most common cause of mouth damage is at the point of unhooking by bad anglers ripping hooks out and thats the same for big...

It can be a pain but I have kept records for many years. Paper to start but I went all "digital" a few years ago...so basically I type it rather than scribble it now.

    Usually quite basic notes.....

    Re: Line strength and diameter

As an aside I have noticed on the continent anglers speaking about their setups tend to talk line diameter rather than line breaking strain which on reflection does make a allot of sense.

I think the Tackle Box did / do quite a comprehensive breakdown of stated V actual diameter and breaking strain although it tends to be for specialist rather than match lines.

Very tight baiting is one idea but then again so is sparse baiting with larger baits. In that case the fish are more likely to be moving from food item to food item individually rather than on mass...
