Re: How did you get on?

Hi all. Been away from here for a bit, and not doing much fishing recently.
Visited the club ponds for a wander round and had a couple of evenings using up bait from the freezer ahead of a house...

Re: How did you get on?

    For...Studity above and beyond?

Succumbed to it myself today. After a tediously poor 2018 on the river, (I couldn't bring myself to add to the reports of blanks), I managed a selection of small...

Re: Problems with Drennan A8 floats.

I'm also more familiar with this issue when using glow-tips. Material is the same as tuff-eye etc probably. I use vaseline or summat like it to hold the tip in the surface film. My own assumption is...

Re: How did you get on?

At the very time I look forward to the years best roach fishing period on my local river I managed to catch a single chub of nearly a pound. The river is flowing and coloured. usually enough to...

Re: How did you get on?

Having bagged 2 blanks the previous weekend, this past one saw me driving back home in the sleet without even getting rods out of the car.
I did put a few baits along a favoured stretch of river in...

    Re: Spring tips

I do too in truth. Got laughed at at a club pond a few years back when I pulled an old fibreglass composite swingtip rod out and set up with it.
Of course it worked. Still would too.

Re: How did you get on?

Having waited weeks for the river to get colour and flow I had high hopes of some decent roach last weekend but in fact got very little. The biggest part of the failure lies with me I feel as I...

    Re: Spring tips

I do believe I have one or two of these lurking in a box somewhere. Not used one in the last couple of decades tho. Drennan were the only ones I know of and were great for those of us who couldn't...

Re: How did you get on?

I hope to be on the bank later. Levels are dropping and I hope to find river in good fettle for some roach. Session on tuesday brought a dozen decent fish up to 1.5 lbs. All on legered bread. Tried...

Re: How did you get on?

Enjoyed a couple of hours catching roach and rudd on the whip at club lake. Needed to go fine to get bites;0.7 and 4mm punch on a 20. Not ultra fine by some standards but not normally necessary here....

Took the chance to wet a line yesterday at club lake. Quickly set up and fishing on the whip to the edge of the ice. Took 20 mins to get a bite, which of course was missed. Switched around with...

I've used tungsten putty before, but stotz are more readily found in my pocket when need arises. I don't fuss about much and putting shot on my hooklebgth does not leave me quaking. Good heavens I...

    Re: Fishing bread

I find a small shot, typically no. 8 or 6 for my gentle local river, can be very helpful. Not only to straighten the hooklength but to catch leaves and other detritus being pushed downstream. It...

Re: How did you get on?

Only catch updates from me relate to some unimpressive whiting off the beach. Had a couple of trips to the beach in hope of cod. Might have to switch target to burbot as cod seem a bit thin on the...

    Re: Line problem

Personally I would recommend underfilling the spool with braid, compared to mono. Reduces wind knots etc. Wetting down the braid first is also good. Some use silicon spray.

    Re: Bull sharks

Nasty critters are bull sharks. They do go a very long way up rivers and are prepared to bite anything. I remember seeing a tv show where an 'expert' was demonstrating how they were exaggeratedly...

You could try a pole rig winder and a handy rubber band. Very easy to loop pre-tied float rig on and off in short time.
