  3. Re: Chance for voluntary approach as mandatory catch and release for salmon in Wales

Other than the miraculous propagation I wasn't aware I'd expressed a view on barbel? other than an aside that they are fond of fish eggs, as are grayling of course.
  4. Re: Chance for voluntary approach as mandatory catch and release for salmon in Wales

Fish welfare is paramount, hence the move to single hooks.
  5. Re: Chance for voluntary approach as mandatory catch and release for salmon in Wales

You might have no time for tradition but if three quarters of the 200 members you need leave your club you might find some modicum of time n'est pas?

Current lore is a learned and knowledgeable...
  6. Re: Chance for voluntary approach as mandatory catch and release for salmon in Wales

There are a number of issues, really. Firstly the number of bodies with an interest in bossing anglers about, exploiting their organisational weaknesses.

Regarding killing salmon there are two...

Re: Leader advise for a #4 for trout

better to keep it simple, for starters a leader of seven to eight feet in total is fine.

I use a rod pod with just a single set of rests.

    Re: Wallis Casting

To Wallis cast isn't that difficult, you just need to practice - 2ounce lead, short spinning rod and centrepin in garden, being careful of course to use strong line and take care regarding accidents....

    Re: Wallis Casting

I can't grasp how the swivel would help?

Each time you side cast, you're putting half a twist in, and reeling in the twist stays, don't see how a swivel on the end would make any difference to...

    Modern Tackle

I was really pleased to read the account of grayling fishing on the news and features thread, and particularly the endorsement of modern tackle, especially carbon rods.

    How lucky and fortunate we...

    All good.

The 75 yards would be without a float I'm guessing using a two ounce lead perhaps bigger.

As for free running - a guy on the tube gives a demo - with the ratchet on. Still casts...

Yes, I don't think the ratchet would wear out, fly reels often have them fixed to "on" and the old Dingleys etc still make a racket.

    Large Bird

I watched a large bird fly over the lake last afternoon.

looks about correct, fifty yards and a long trot and you might be in trouble if you hook a barbel.

Centrepins still have a use in today's angling. Like a split cane rod though, any problems or damage will quickly show up.

Regarding the cheap ones, totally agree, had one used it around four...
