Re: Fishing the Thames near Maidenhead

I cannot begin to imagine as a parent how you could enjoy a fishing session by the river with such young toddlers, you’re not being over protective at all, I’m sure that poor father of Lucas let him...
  2. Re: Light reel with qr spools for canals and light carping?

That Daiwa looks a serious bargain, with a spare spool too.
  3. Re: Light reel with qr spools for canals and light carping?

Will you be targeting carp on the canal or fishing for silvers?

I ask because if you want to fish for both carp and silvers you will need two spools with different breaking strains, light for...
  4. Re: Light reel with qr spools for canals and light carping?

Fishing a canal can be somewhat different to carping, when you say “light carping” what exactly do you mean?

Re: Best butt rest for floater fishing

It’s an exciting way to fish, just about the only time I’d target carp but the bird life is a serious problem in most the waters I fish, infact one local day ticket water has banned any form of...

Re: Best butt rest for floater fishing

You need to come and fish in my neck of the woods Mike. The gulls are trained to an Olympic standard, they get all the practice they need when the DFL’s are visiting for the weekend or school...

Re: Best butt rest for floater fishing

Other reasons I’ve never used a rest for this method, if the venue allows I would be stalking looking to drop a bait on the nose of an unsuspecting carp. Also I prefer to stand up, behind some cover...

Re: Best butt rest for floater fishing

A baitrunner option is better but I still wouldn’t be quick enough for a swooping gull. As soon as you lay a rod in a rest it is all too easy to get distracted, pour a drink maybe.

    Re: Bread, types, usage?

Since finding this article I have had great success using bread especially for my Rudd fishing. Doesn’t fall off the hook even on a strong cast, although I do prefer it hair rigged on a quick stop,...

Re: Best butt rest for floater fishing

Simon is right Mike, I’m the laziest angler but would never put the rod in a rest when surface fishing, not just the risk of losing your rod to a carp but you have to be quick if a bird swoops down...

    The New Fox Easy Brolly

I’m quite tempted, best price £110 which is expensive for a brolly but cheap for a bivvie?

Know little about Fox products, any opinions?

PS Turn the volume down, annoying music alert!

    Re: rigs explained and recommended

I’m curious to know that as a total newcomer you’ve opted to start your adventure with a pole as opposed to a rod and reel, any specific reason?

    Good luck and enjoy.

    Re: Bait Staying Fresh?

Same as Kev, I wash mine prior to using to avoid sticky fingers, (keep juice for gb), keep corn in an airtight container and never leave it in the sun, mine seems to last weeks when refrigerated!
