    Re: Barbel/chub etc.

The X4 seems to be at least 2.75lb test curve - at least, that's all I can see online. I'd go for 1.25 - 1.5tc with a through action.

No, not used them, Anth. Hype unlikely to be anything other than.....well.....hype. If you have fish in the swim and they're feeding, any good quality bait will do. Re; this company you mention -...

    Re: Loosing fish River Trent

Very much agree with S-kippy on this issue. Using tackle suited to the conditions is really a minimum requirement for any competent angler. Ignore the negative comments, John. Some barbel anglers...

    Traditional Fisherman

I hope it's ok to post this on FM? Apologies if not, and feel free to delete.

I'm curious as to what has happened to the Traditional Fisherman forum at http://www.traditionalfisherman.co.uk. The...

    Re: North Western

It's a nice looking rod, Hague. A through action, Avon-style? I have a NW Sealey 2lb specimen that I had refurbished a couple of years ago. Nice a soft and great with a 'pin.

Re: Teme Severn / AC Baits

I last had some pellets from Andy Clitheroe a couple of years ago. He's stopped making bait, for now, to concentrate on fishing (the cheek of it!). I know it's completely in my head (and can't...

    Re: Hinders Elips Pellets.....

That was me (on another popular barbel forum). Yes, disappointed. The two years in development clearly didn't include any time testing. Wafty, unsubstantial little things they are. Seemingly, all...

Yes, I ordered 5kg yesterday. That should take me through the remainder of this season, and next.

    re: Hinders Elips Pellets.....

Have you tried West Country Baits? They do an elips (being round, it's probably time they changed the name!). I used to get mine from T7.

Re: What makes a good Centrepin

Back to the original question - I've recently acquired a Garry Mills Barbel Catchers pin and it has a variable setting for the check. Then there's the turning characteristic of the Ray Walton...

    Re: Anglers prebaiting?

I'm too tight to pre-bait, apart from the same-session variety. 2kg of boilies would last me a season. I also use pellets, however.

    Re: Opening Day.

Yep - Friday's booked off work and I plan to roll up to the Dove before midnight, lightly bait a few swims (no caviar involved) and cast in at the appointed hour. I don't usually do this, however...

Re: Centre Pin - Barbel / Bigger Fish

    Re: Barbel fishing

Not all weirpools are maelstroms and I find barbel congregate in deep weirpools during the winter for the relatively warmer water. I've no idea if that holds true, however, on the upper Avon as I...

And don't forget the Teme. Some lovely stretches on the BAA card there too. I'm not currently a member but it has to be the best value card out there!

Re: do you still superglue pellets?

Far better? In what way? But yes, like anything, we all have our preferences and we can always find a way to justify the method we use.

Re: Your dream rod and reel

Perhaps a Chris Lythe or David Brown 'pin. Another Hexagraph - the 1.5lb Avon. I picked up a Ray Walton 1.25lb version on Ebay a couple of years ago. Failing that a Barder barbel rod would be...

    Re: New Barbel Rod

By George, you're all correct; there are some lovely rods outs there. I was tempted by an Hexagraph on Ebay a couple of years ago, and bought it. The price was good at it's a 1.25lb Ray Walton Avon...
