    Superfluous to your original question perhaps but... a soaked pellet has many advantages
    1. makes them bind together for use in a feeder
    2. sink faster
    3. a wet pellet leaches flavour better

    Do you pole anglers experience less 'bumping off' due to the cushioning effect of elastic?

    I use a whip quite a lot in the summer and just let a foot or so of excess line lay across the water...

    The action of the rod is vitally important but also consider slack lines verses tight lines - or a hard strike to set the hook or a lift type strike to set the hook home properly.

    Not using whole grains I haven't Mark but I've often used a hemp puree mixed with a stiff bread paste for roach. Stiff enough to cast to the far bank and hold back, and even recast a couple of times...

    Easy to setup. Just attach new hook length to mainline using loop to loop, or quick change bead or even a clip swivel which can function as a dropper shot too when float fishing.
