First (real) go at floodwater fishing

Over my (few) years of fishing I've never had a real go at winter floodwater barbel fishing as I only properly started barbel fishing this summer just gone. I'm hopefully planning a fair few trips...

    Re: bought and hardly used

Got a 42" carp landing net a mate gave me for free as it has a rip near the splitter... Used it.once but I never do any carp fishing and it's too big and cumbersome.

    Re: Tench and crucian water

I'm fortunate enough to have just joined a syndicate offering a silvers only pond and a tench pond that I couldn't even dream of. Of course there's a carp pond too but they're a bit of a laugh now...

    Re: Silvers / Canal rod

    Hi greenie,

There are 3 ponds on the syndicate... The carp pond; carp to about 6lb most plus bream and tench of around 3 or 4lb. Silvers pond containing skimmers, roach, rudd, perch, chub etc etc....

Done a few hours on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. Maggot bashing on the Chesterfield Canal! Absolutely loved it, mixed bags of around double figures made up of roach, perch, dace,...

    Silvers / Canal rod

I've started to really enjoy fishing the canal for silvers recently and I've even signed up for a "silvers syndicate" group of waters. I use a 13ft Daiwa match rod (it's a good 25/30 years old) which...

    Re: Freelined baits v's anchored...

We're very similar up my end, my fellow barbellers and I will, through summer, use the lightest lead possible and sometimes even a couple of shots, or no weight at all and control the bait to rest...

    Re: Angling Clubs

That was the sort of thing I was thinking, there's plenty of waters in my area where matches could be hosted; canals, ponds and even rivers.

I was thinking of ideas to cater for the specimen...

    Re: Angling Clubs

It's not the "getting it started" side of things I'm struggling with, it's more "what do I do now it's running?" What should the club offer? Should I charge members? Etc.

    Angling Clubs

As we all know, a lot of pubs nowadays have their own angling clubs, whether it be becauae they're near a good water, have a lot of anglers coming in or whether the owner/manager just enjoys it. I'm...

Re: How did you get on?

    Brilliant, just brilliant!

Same sort of thing happened to me a few weeks ago; one evening I was walking to the supermarket and I decided to walk down the canal, just to have a look. I ended up...

    Re: Lure fishing

I think it's just going to be a case of persisting with the lures until the bites completely dry up and the weather is significanfly colder. I'll just take it as it comes!

    Re: Lure fishing

I mainly used rubber shads and jigs, as every so often I'd catch on either of these and be far too persistent in trying to catch again with them. :omg:

Since about April I've experimented with...

    Lure fishing

Lure fishing is one of my most favourite ways of fishing, so I try to do it as much as possible. I tend to lure fish from about March right through to about this time of year. But, when would you say...

I wouldn't bother buying a baitrunner if I were you, you'll never face a situation while lure fishing when you'll need it and they also tend to be quite heavy, not sure about ideal retrieve rate but...

My summer has been great really, had three new PBs plus one or two firsts. The PBs were barbel at 8lb 10oz, roach at 1lb 7oz and chub at 5lb on the dot. I also caught my first barbel on freelining...
