  1. Re: Why not have lure fishing at Farmoor reservoir?

Were I the owner or manager of a big trout fishery, I wouldn't ban all lure anglers. Just the really irritating ones.

I've only ever caught one of these weird fish - out of the canal on a single caster on a size 20

Out of all the things I'm concerned about now, the few quid wasted on my renewed license is well down the list.

    Re: Prebaiting advice please

That's some menu you have in mind, and carting that lot about, mixing it up and getting up early to throw it in should all keep you fit!

I've not got big experience of pre-baiting big waters -...

    Re: Rod case

You have to be careful buying these cases mail order. I sent off for a Greys Prodigy 12' case. It's very well made, a quality item. But my 12' 2 piece rod sticks out of the top unless you push it...

    Re: Clutch or backwind

I don't remember the drags on reels being as bad as some say, but even now, when I've got plenty of reels with good drags, I like to use backwinding as part of the mix. I don't know what others...

    Re: Clutch or backwind

Too modest, Mike - you catch a few good ones. I think the drag/backwind issue might have changed a bit in recent times. Not necessarily because reels are different. More that fishing has changed....

    Re: Clutch or backwind

In the days pre-carp, and with many unlikely to encounter a barbel, backwinding was the norm for match anglers and most of us fishing for small to medium size fish. For a long chunk of my fishing...

    Re: Morale booster

Me too. I love fishing with old buildings on the far bank, and a bit of dilapidation and dereliction only makes it better. Is the fishing any good here? Does it have the chub to go with the...
  12. Re: Where will you go and what Tackle will you use when........

That's my view of canals, these days, even though I used to love them. But you do get places like wides - a bit like the "flashes" formed by subsidence round your way, and bigger than the usual...

When I lived in Wilmslow, Mike, I liked to fish the Macc canal at Higher Poynton. There's a place - you'll see it on the maps - where you could cross the canal via a footbridge and fish a big wide...

I quite like the reel seat on that little rod - reminds me of the one on a John Wilson Avon I once had.

This one joined me for a winter barbel session. The line's not tight because I was only float-legering a little foam blob in the edge. A bit later Steve came along, said that looks good - be nice...

    Re: Stick floats on winders

I feel like I'm intruding, but it's not only match anglers who do or don't put rigs on winders, and if you do, it isn't a sign of carrying boxes of rigs and the kitchen sink. I leave all the trays...
