    Re: Bait only reservoir

Given your location, I'm actually a little surprised that you've found somewhere that allows bait fishing for trout. Once you get north of the river Tees, you are firmly into game fishing territory....

Re: How did you get on?

My usual evening session, this time on the gravel pit. Only the one bite for a 4lb 7oz tench. Only went to avoid the village fete funfair which is about 100 yards from my gaff. Only stayed as long...

Re: Length under split shot (river trout)

As above, I'd not worry too much. The depth you are fishing is more important than shotting, but when trout are in the mood even that doesn't matter much.

However, I'd suggest that you don't put...

Re: Only gone & snapped my Acolyte Plus ...

    Lakyaman,
I'll be honest and say that it never ceased to amaze me that your Acolyte Ultra lasted more than five minutes given the size of the fish you were catching with it.

Re: How did you get on?

Another fairly short (3 hours or so) trip to the river. Much less water and much more productive than last time. 28 dace, 4 grayling, 2 chublets, the obligatory trout and masses of minnows. You'd...
  6. Re: Light reel with qr spools for canals and light carping?

For sixty quid you aren't going to get the lightest reels in any of the manufacturers ranges. They reserve their lightest materials for costlier products. Quick release spools also rules out the vast...

    Re: Luncheon meat

Trout will take pretty much anything, including luncheon meat, when they are at it. I've caught them on cheese paste, boilies and luncheon meat when fishing for barbel and chub. However, I wouldn't...

Re: Gaymire: Are the Monsters Still There?

It's only really a fued if both sides go at it. The vast majority on here, whether they believe or not, are not part of the saga. Sadly, many of those that really were involved are no longer with us....

Re: How did you get on?

After a morning of buggering about doing very little, I had an afternoon of footie watching. At around 1800, I had the inexplicable urge to get out maggot drowning. Couldn't face the gravel pit in...

Re: Are you all using phone or PC..

I believe so. As I don't find using a phone a problem, I've barely tried it. However, some users do and it has a decent reputation.

I use both PC and android phone/tablet without any problems. However, if you are having dramas on handheld devices, have you tried Tapatalk?

Re: Hook size for chod rig

Match it to the size of the pop up you use and a size 10 will be fine. 10-12mm boilies should be no issue with a size 10 hook.

Re: The New Fox Easy Brolly

Looks pretty much like the original Supa Brolly. When they started updating that, it ended up being more bivvy than brolly. The Easy Brolly goes back to the original stripped out, light weight idea....

Re: Daren't valley 0.75lb by The Tackle Box.

There's no angst, and they certainly don't hurt, I just don't find them comfortable in use. If you do, or don't care, good luck to you. Personally, I believe that screw up reel seats are the best way...

Re: Daren't valley 0.75lb by The Tackle Box.

You'll have to ask them. I have done so in the past, both manufacturers and custom rod builders. They state the reasons I posted and the good old "that's what our customers want". I've no doubt that...

Re: Daren't valley 0.75lb by The Tackle Box.

I'd have probably bought a Darent Valley float rod when they first appeared on the market if it wasn't for the up-locking reel seat. I've tried a few times, with otherwise good rods, but I simply...

Sorry, I've never fished the Wear. I have so rarely ventured further north in my pursuit of fishing venues.

Take three on the gravel pit. Less of a surprise this time, an eel of 1lb 9oz. Eventually, I backed it up with a 4lb 4oz tench.

    Re: Night fishing River Swale?!?!

There aren't many places on the Swale that you can night fish, let alone day ticket stretches you can night fish. Throw in the double figure barbel and parking close to your peg requirements and you...

Re: How did you get on?

As there's little evidence to suggest carp existed here before they were brought here as a food source, it's rather doubtful that genuinely wild carp have ever been found here. However, some strains...

Some types of plastic are simply not deemed safe for use with foodstuffs for human consumption. Perhaps it's made from one of those. Alternatively, it may just be legal backside covering on a product...

Tip the tin out into a sieve. Rinse the corn with cold water. Put corn into a clip lock box. Add Fresh water until every kernel is underwater. Take it to the bank like that and should last just fine.

Re: How did you get on?

Back to the gravel pit for another go. Hordes of tiddly perch, one roach, a couple of tench (3lb 8oz and 4lb 5oz) and a real surprise with four proper eels. I only weighed the first, which I suspect...

Re: How did you get on?

A nice evening session on the gravel pit. Hordes of small perch on the maggot saw me resort to sweetcorn. Thankfully, that was enough to give the tench a look in. 4lb 8oz and 4lb 10oz.
