Re: Your Favourite Coarse Fishing River.

I grew up in Wigan and the river Douglas flows through the middle of the town. When I was a lad the river was completely dead but since leaving Wigan the river had been cleaned up and does now...

Re: singling out tench from carp

I use to fish a commerical carp lake for the tench, never once hooked a carp. Can't say I do anything to avoid the carp but using traditional tench tactics ensured I caught only tench.

    I used to...

    Re: Rudd/bream hybrid

I would figure there would be chub in the lake. The river feeds two lakes on the complex, I know for sure chub are in one but I'm unsure about the lake I was fishing. Seeing as the security measures...

Never heard of yellow finned rudd. Just seen the pic that you posted up on here a while back.

    Re: Rudd/bream hybrid

Double red maggot on a feeder rig with a very long tail as they seem to shy off feeders, was planning on fishing the sliding waggler but it was blowing a houligan. The only fish of the day over 2oz

Re: bait you never leave home without

    I use alot of hemp.

I always have a tin of sweetcorn and sachet or two of cat food as back up but rarely use either.

Re: Best Chub Quivertip/Feeder Rod of ALL TIME?

I'm currently using the matchpro medium feeder as my river rod. They're lovely looking rods with a nice parabolic action. Never found it lacking on a chub.

    Re: Hook baits

If you're after the carp then tigers of peanuts are good. Just be careful with the amounts used, a small handful with a pint of hemp is IMO the best way of fishing either.

    Re: badger boilie throwing stick

    Re: Floater rod

Floater fishing means light lines and small hooks, IMO alot of carp rods aren't massively suitable. I wouldn't want to be going above a 2lb TC that's for sure and I would only go that heavy if snags...

I use Shimmy's exages but the fc version, I have a 3K on a float rod and a 4K on a feeder rod.

    Re: What leader

I don't like leaders, I don't think they do the job the designed to do and are another risk for the carp. A pointless waste of money IMO.

Ask yourself why are you using a leader? The two common...

    Re: Can someone please explain

Not unheard of but very rare, if you cross two species normally the offspring are sterile as they don't produce eggs/sperm due to problems with chromosomes.

    Re: Can someone please explain

Thats why the grow quick, no need to expend energy producing egg/milt and then knocking the hell out of each other whilst spawning.

I believe they sell carp in France that can't breed either now,...

Re: Bait from the Vegetable and Fruit Counter

I've caught on a chunk of banana whilst stalking carp.

Saying that I've seen a carp caught on a used ciggy filter, they'll eat almost anything at times.

Re: After the Chris Yates Rod

I've got a set of carp rods that where £150 each but that's going back maybe 7 seasons?

Last season I bought a Drennan matchpro medium feeder and a matchpro float, they where around £130ish each.

Re: most you've spent on a reel
