Re: Feeder rod for big fish

I didnt say it wasnt up to the job...just that imo its slightly softer than I would have thought. Sadly...I dont have access to the sort of barbel fishing you have so I've yet to see what it can...

Re: Feeder rod for big fish

The Marksman Barbel would certainly do a job...by no means a poker though,if anything I think its a tad undergunned but that suits me as I dont like rocket launchers.

Free Spirit do some good twin...

    Re: Line for trotting

As I recall 0.14 Duraflex is about 5lb bs whereas 0.14 Drennan FF is about 2.6lb bs. Its the only " hi-tec low diameter" line I've any confidence in. It floats, it knots well and isn't prone to...

    Re: Line for trotting

Not something I do so I have no recommendation....and in any case lines are entirely personal preferences. All I would say is that to use any brand in which you don’t have 100% faith is to miss the...

    Re: Line for trotting

That's exactly my position too. It matters not to me whoever uses Sensor if they get on with it....all I've ever said is that I dont ( at all) and that there are (imo) far better lines out there. Its...

    Re: J W Young’s Superlightweight reel

I totally agree. I have all types but the front edge lever is, to my mind, in exactly the right place and requires little thought [ or effort] to operate. I wish my Bewick had one....the uppy down...

    Re: Line for trotting

Its certainly cheap and readily available. Personally I think that has a lot to do with its popularity. I hate the stuff as you all well know and will not use line I don’t get on with irrespective of...

Re: How did you get on?

Well....as predicted that's 3 blanks in a row for me. I felt sure I'd get a bite at least...good area, rig and bait good, temps decent, wind onto my bank and no bloody cormorants within half a mile....

Re: How did you get on?

Exactly as I predicted....I never had a sniff of a fish. No single bleeps, half hearted pick ups or 1" lifts.....nothing. It was so dead I didn't even bother to stay for the 10 to 8 mugfish.

Re: How did you get on?

Bored all week so decided to go today. Nowhere I truly fancied but in the end I decided on Bury Hill as I’ve loads of deadbait and I’ve only been out after the Zander once this winter. I was greeted...

    Re: Self hooking rigs ?

Just a thought........I wonder sometimes what is really meant by a self hooking rig. A free running method feeder for example, is that a self hooking rig or an anti eject rig, or both ? Barbel have a...

Re: How did you get on?

Off to the club lake today for another go at the elusive big roach.

I knew it was going to be hard with the barometer well into the 1030's and no wind to speak off. Even worse I had 4 bloody...

Re: Bog ordinary rear rod rest head

Hmmm.....I’d need to see one in the flesh but I’m liking the shape. I too couldn’t really get on with either the Gardner or Korum Y rests. I’m currently using a Preston “Dutch” feeder rest on a mini...

Re: How did you get on?

I forced myself out today. I didnt fancy it but with the weather on the turn I thought I ought to get out on the one day this week where I might not get washed off or blown away.
