That's it for me. I'm old enough to remember when the capture of any carp was something really special (in the circles I moved in anyway).

    Re: Made up rod storage

I knew there was a reason I've been doing it like that for the past few decades, just couldn't remember it!

Have I mentioned my OCD? :)

    Re: Next question

I'm a late convert to the uni-knot. Easy to tie and subjectively very strong. Having said that, no knot tied badly with cut the mustard.

    Re: Made up rod storage

I've never done it tip-to-butt, oo-er! Thinking about it though, it makes more sense. Everyday is a learning day, even after 36 years of fishing!

  6. Re: Gar v Asian Carp in the states new initiative

It's a funny thing in the states (and other countries), once a species is designated a "trash fish" (usually because of poor eating qualities), it will receive no mercy. They are often thrown up the...

Sadly, this is the norm around the world. You don't have to spend long on YouTube to see this kind if thing. Don't get me wrong, I kill plenty of fish, but every one is killed quickly and humanely.

    Poll: Re: Your opinions, please!

I'm vaguely aware that there is more to FM than the forums. No disrespect to FM or the contributors, but I'm not really interested in the rest.

    Re: What I do...

I don't know Dann, I would love to take the ski up the Thames around the weirs in the Windsor/Old Windsor area. Would be ideal for chucking some lures about!

    Re: What I do...

I've put together a video of the highlights of my first year on the ski. It's basically just me catching some fish :)

  11. Re: Gar v Asian Carp in the states new initiative

Maybe American anglers will start treating gar with a little respect. You don't have to spend much time on YouTube to see that these fish are often treated with very little care.

    Re: Parakeets........Grrrrrrrrr !

We get them here, the Aussie version. Kiwis hate non-indigenous animals, even more so ones that come from Australia. I've been asked to shoot them by various people. I've declined. I think they look...

    Re: The gentle art.

The marketing guys lost me a few years ago when Shimano released their "tribal" range along with some spiel that went along the lines of "since the beginning of time, man has hunted..." over a...

    Re: Elevated Carping

Nice story. I would rather have caught that fish in that place, than a 20 from a horrible commercial water. Maybe that's just me.

I wonder how the carp got in there?

    Re: Nasty surprise

Not just me then! It's a good habit to get in to. DON"T sit down, don't have a cup of tea or a beer, just get on with the nasty jobs, then rest easy afterwards :)

Re: Need help to decide on best rig/method

I'd float fish and use two anchors so that the boat doesn't swing about in the wind.

    Re: Trotting help

Do you guys ever use braid for trotting? It was something I'd always planned to try, but never got round to it. Thought something like 4lb Fireline would be ideal, especially on a centrepin.

Re: Have you ever owned the perfect rod?

Close to a perfect rod, yes. I won't bore you with the details as probably not relevant to anyone else.

There is a caveat though, the rod is "perfect" for a specific application. A rod can be...

    Re: Rainbow trout advice

Rainbows can be caught at any depth, but deeper maybe the best option in summer. I like to get my baits down in the bottom 1/4 of water column on sunny days. Having said that, it's not like actually...

    Re: Suspicious or Not

Sounds dodgy. I saw a lot of this kind of stuff before I left the UK. One lad and his dad were quietly slipping roach or rudd in to a lidded bucket on the Exeter Canal. I called the bailiff, but...
