    Re: Northern Angling Show

I walked over to the Trafford Centre for lunch. Seeing lots of people with bags from the show on the way over, I wasn't the only one.

Way more choice, and as cheap or as expensive as you wanted...

    Re: Northern Angling Show

Was a bit of a drive for me. M1 then Woodhead pass also, which looked rather glorious in the sunshine on Saturday so I did enjoy the drive up actually. Never expected the weather to be so stunning...

    Re: Northern Angling Show

Went to the show, was massively disappointed.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a show almost entirely dedicated to a single species, but I think it would have been a good idea to...

Re: So the bubble has burst

The days of a small tackle shop in every town seem to be gone.

There used to be 3 tackle shops within 5 minutes' drive of my house.
2 have closed and the other is now "carp only".

Re: John Wilson - sad news

Just seen this on the PAC's facebook page. Sad news indeed. RIP John.

    Re: Sad news

I've only been on here a few weeks, having only recently returned to fishing after several years, but I'd noticed that he was one of the most active members of the forum. I was only reading a thread...

I hope you've got an uptrace above the camera - that would be an expensive bite off!

    Re: Trent Salmon

    Agreed.
I would add though that as a native species, salmon should be running up the Trent and its tributaries but yes it would be preferable if they benefitted from work carried out on behalf of...

    Re: Trent Salmon

I think you misunderstood me. I didn't mean the return of the salmon per se is a positive, but that the cleaning up of the rivers benefits not only the salmon but other species of fish, birds and...

    Re: Trent Salmon

I once caught a salmon parr in the Dove, and once saw a leaping full-sized one on the same river. Obviously, to get to the Dove, they have to come up the Trent.

As has already been said, they've...

    Re: Split shot

I've always re-used the larger sizes of shot. Any that I can get off the line in a re-useable state always went back in the pot. Makes no sense to to do otherwise.

I've got some massive shot that...

    Re: Eating freshwater fish

I've eaten dogfish from a chip shop in Mevagissey that was named on the board as dogfish. Wanted to try it. It was ok but much prefer cod.

    Re: Hardwick Hall Ponds

Plenty of carp in the top pond. I've seen them when on walks round there. Not fished it for many years myself though.

    Re: Getting back into it

Funnily enough, that's one of the things I'm interested in finding out. It's probably the best part of a decade since I was seriously into it. I suspect lots of things are very similar but I'm sure...

    Re: Eating freshwater fish

Re Fish being killed for weigh ins in matches. I've heard of the practice, but it died out a lot longer than 20 years ago. I think it was probably the 60s or early 70s it was last done. I remember...
