    Looking at my rod I think this was either a Carp caught off the surface or caught while I was after Tench.

    I’m almost sure that this was an unexpected Barbel that I hooked on my 13ft Acolyte Ultra Float rod when I was trying to target Roach, Dace and Chub using 3lb line and a size 18 hook.

    A pleasant couple of hours at the Holme Lacey hotel lake in Herefordshire (while I waited for the wife to have her nails done) resulted in three Carp like this on a 2lb hooklength.

    The club dug this lake out of water Cress beds back in the 1930s and the springs erupting from the bed make it a great winter venue as the springs are a constant temperature all year round.
