    Re: Is this the L.I.F?

Thankfully it only took less than a couple of minutes (without sound) to determine the river in question - what happened next never happened.................:)

PS Skip - It's now 6 years, nine...

    Re: How local is local

A few minutes stroll across the fields for river, stream and backwater fishing. A five minute drive to other river/backwater options if I fancy a change.

    Re: Centre pin line release

I've never found that but I will agree that if it's what you're used to and comfortable with then that's the way to go. IMO the main thing is having a reel that you have confidence in, a sound...

    Re: Rivers after rain

It depends what you're fishing for. I've usually found that a rising river is good for barbel, a fining down river better for most other species..................

Re: How to deal with a Pike on the bank ?

Look to see where your hooks are before proceeding to handle the fish. Insert two fingers under the gill plate, keeping them well away from any hooks. Lift the pike's head and its mouth will usually...

Not sure which part of the Gt Ouse you fish but there are plenty of chub to the stretches that i fish - the thing is I don't fish it too often as it's a 20 minute drive and I have better river/stream...

Re: Single circle hooks for pike.

Usually one hooked through the tail or head depending on how it’s being fished. Bury Hill have had a singles only rule for some years and you can get some info from their site HERE

Re: Single circle hooks for pike.

I've not used circles but have used large singles since the 70's without any problems. I believe that, as with any setup, the ones you lose are generally small jacks that haven't got a proper hold...
