Does anybody know if there going to extend this to the North. We have the Midlands and now the South covered so please extend it alittle further.

They'll only publish in areas where anglers can afford to buy it, Bryan.)

DOn't worry though, you have some good friends down here now and I'm sure they'll smuggle the odd copy up to you.

Meant to ask though, what's the story behind Ray Mumford? I know you'll probably say, buy the mag, but our local shop is the Coop and they don't stock mags on "bloodsports".

From the wording of the Press release it sounds as if he has Alzheimer's. Is this true?

Will it be available in the Northern Oxfam shops Mr Alzheimer's?

If I find it in a newsagents I will buy a copy if only to find out about Ray. He was a damned good angler winning more matches than most others on the circuit during the 70s. He always had my respect fot that record.

Unfortunately he became a pain in the Aris for a lot of people when he was ranting on about the close season. It wasn't just that he was for retaining it, that I could accept as his opinion, but it was the names he called people (me included) who wanted to see it abolished or changed. He was quite rude and after one spate of phone calls I threatened to make an official complaint about him.

He used to come and fish our once a year Marlow Rose Bowl match and always brought along some of his very fine floats to sell. They were beautifully made, no doubt, but as many followers said, how sad to see someone once so great reduced to selling a few floats to pay his entry fee and pool money etc. Though he never did, he really should have fished for England.

I have suspected for some years that he might be losing his mind and if this is the case I only hope he finds some inner peace and comfort until his time comes.

Yuk - sounds like my "nightmare" kind of fishing venue. But everyone to their own.

So sorry to hear about Ray Mumford.
Re the artificial river: Will it have a roof, floodlights and air-conditioning?
Will solve almost everyones problems, no close season, no thermal clothing and daytime night fishing. AND there will be no need to stalk your fish because they will always be in the same bit of river - great!!!

There was a tele thing about Mumford a few years ago ( anyone)?,. I always had the impression that he was just a bit of a raincoat who happened to be a brilliant Angler, and had been so for years.

I fished with him and next to him and against him and at times he was quite strange to say the least,,,,but he knew what it was about and had been around for ages and he knew the crack, so to speak.

Does anyone on here remember 'Up For The Cup'? which was printed I believe in the early Match Fisher mags, Brilliant Stuff, so funny. Mary was well reperesented in those.

Should have replied to you Jeff when I got the mag last week.
Ray Mumford was beaten with an iron bar by muggers in 2001.
He suffered brain damage and is in a rest home in Leicestershire.

The muggers stole all his fishing gear and all his memorabilia.

Yes thanks Rik. I got a free copy with the trade magazine today (saved me ?1.99 that did). I didn't know it was published by David Hall's people.

It's a shame about Ray. He was a good angler, of that there is no doubt. As the article mentioned though he was very dogmatic and often rubbed people up the wrong way. I think this is what might have let him down when it came to being selected for the England team.

Having said that, no-one deserves that kind of treatment. It shows just how low the scum of this day will go to steal a few items, not much much in themselves, but which mean so much to the person they belong to. Okay, it went on in the old days, but not to the same extent.

i like the old triad execution....give them analgesia and then feed them into a mincing machine leg first so they can see the end coming.....

I remember Ray Mumford very well. He was a great all round angler of the 60s, winning many matches and catching many specimen fish.

He loved the Thames.

Such great talent.
