Pellets

Hi All,
I've come to the end of my supply of BBPC 6mm Floating Explander Pellets. When my local tackle shop got their first delvery in I bought half their stock, although it was a tester to see how they would sell. Now they do still stock them but the price is ?2 for 500grms, now I'm not miserable.....well maybe a little but I think ?4 a kilo is a little steep. I've tried the V.D.E. ones and they are quite good as well and I think the bags were bigger (can't remember the price). Does anyone know if these are available either in bulk (at resonable prices) or online at less than the prices above?

Thanks Bryan,
I've had a look but they don't seem to do expanders.

I think we're only scratching the surface of the particles market. It's largely carpers who use seeds, why more specialist and pleasure anglers don't use them I'll never know. I suppose because the ready mixed groundbait bags are so convenient.

my local tackle shop just got me 2 x 25kg sacks of 4ml BBPC pellets so I should imagine that they would do the floaters in bulk sacks too.

jason - if you look at Baitsonline you'll see that some pellets on there are based on seeds such as .... hemp. All as i am saying is pellets, particles (seeds) is a good way of catching many fish, not just carp. And they're cheap ( seeds - cheap - get it?)

I'll get me coat...

I'm pretty sure that pellets are obtainable from another source much cheaper (GEDDIT!)
Just dont know under what disguise they present themselves!.... I mean, can you really see a trout famer paying that much for them, the food would outweigh the value of the fish surely....

bit like the sheep feed, pony nut, bird food scenario... so come on, some bright spark must know where to get em!.. DAVE!

Marraiges in Chelmsford sell bulk 25Kg sacks of 6mm expander pellets for about ?20 or so - sorry to be vague but I'm still using the sack I bought 2 years ago.

I can't remember their website address (someone out ther will know) but they don't advertise these on the website anyway. They are different to the expanders you can buy in the shops as they take far less time to absorb water and if you leave them too long they disintegrate. However, they're fine for fishing on the hook and I've had no other problems with them.

Thanks everyone for the replies,

Bryan, I've looked at the baitsonline site and they seem reasonable, they also do a nice variation of small seed baits which look like a good mix for feeder fishing. I've never tried dari seed but they look interesting.

Jeff,
I thought the same as you, I was hopeing someone might know of a source that the rebagged tackle brands come from, like csl and molasas or tackle items like shrink & rig tubing. Thay all existed primerily for other used outside of angling.

Another question for everyone,

Do you think there's a difference between 'Floating pellets' and 'Expanders' maybe I was unlucky with the batch I tried using but I've tried pumping floating trout pellets and found they don't seem to have the same texture as expanders, I found them to be very soft, too soft for anything other than loose feed close in by hand or through a pole cup. I've also tried changing the texture by disolving some gelatine sachets in the water before pumping them and draining them off before allowing them to stand for a while. This helped a little but they still weren't as hookable as branded expanders. Adding the gelatine to expanders makes them more waggler / feeder friendly if any one is having problems fishing a method other than the pole.

molasses and csl you want horse feed suppliers and sheep feed suppliers respectively.
look in your yellow pages for the nearest animal feed supplier to you.
and ask em.CSL pellets are EWE nuts, molasses is sold in 5litre bottles for about a fiver, and 12.5 kilos of white cereal and crumb groundbait costs ?7.50 from my local one.
though my local one gave me a bottle of molasses free because it went out of date the month before.

Sorry this post should have been for Nick instead of Jeff.

I meant to say to Jeff that I agree about people not using particles enough, I pleasure fish and have started using pellets and seed baits more often as I find them cleaner and the style of fishing I do it is easier to monitor the amount of feed I use per hour.

Jason,
Yep, these are the places I was talking about. The trade made a killing on these type of items before it was common knowlege where the man on the bank could find them (well not quite but most of us knew a man who could get 'em cheaper than the shop). Then the forums were the place to find out a local or online supplier, but expanders are still ellusive (
