Hello, may I ask you how do I become involved in carp fishing? I'm a thirty-something female who is fascinated by carp and am really keen to try out carp fishing. But, I know nothing.. I live in Leeds.

first thing to do is move to a better part of the country and lose any accent that you have.

failing that, ask specific questions on here, read, read and read some more (some of the articles on here are pretty good) or magazines, be wary of some mags as they portray carping as a continual bagging sessions of 20's and 30's, reality states that it isn't like that.

If you can find somebody in your area to go carping with, so much the better, as they can show you something in a tenth of the time it would take for you to work it out.

Enjoy it, experiment and don't be blinkered by the commercial side of the sport.

"continual bagging sessions of 20's and 30's, reality states that it isn't like that." And I thought I'd got it all wrong!!

sorry, just realised you are female, if you are trying to find somebody in your area, then make sure they are safe or that you go with somebody.
Don't want to sound patronising, but your personal safety should come first.

Trying to find a sensible and safe carp angler..... now that would be a challenge.....

Most of the carp anglers in the Manchester area are quite stable and safe, while its only a short ride over the M62 to some excellent carp fishing on the Cheshire Meres. As Rik says read as much as possible (preferably the stuff written by Northern carp anglers, it usually makes more sense). Additionally, it may be helpful to join one of the national carp/specialist organisations, who may have local brances in your area!

Come on Monk, you have to teach her the true way.

Special Brews, a double to call at the DSS and lots more.

seem to remember a young bloke from louth liked the odd drink.....not just a preserve of the suverners.....

(ok, so its now "malinism, hutchism, smithism,........"!!)

caroline,

the other thing i would say is try out "tiddler bashing" before you jump into carping. you'll be a mutch better angler for learning how to float fish, ledger, swimfeeder, etc, and learn how to play and handle smaller fish before you jump into carping. everyone should do it, but sadly many never do.

oh, I understand.
No she's not.
Boating baits into snags is not safe or sensible.
Seen her a few times, bit like Alan Wilson, bore the fish into submission.

Don`t you have a home to go to Rik.

I was born in leeds in quarry hill flat`s
fished roundhay park lakes since I was 4 yrs old, Caroline don`t listen to the boys fish near the Island for carp and big eels or at the dame wall for carp and pike boat house 4 skimmers and roach and Rik this lake holds carp to 40+ and they are not fished for there is a pike that is called the tackle shop and that one is BIG.

Thank you for your comments I really appreciate them. Must confess I don't have a Leeds accent though, er I am a soft southerner and have to endure ribbing for speaking a bit posh, oh well.

By the way, Dear Rik, We don't ever say: "Eee Bah Gum" in Yorkshire. That is a Lancastrian habit make no mistake.

And by the way Caroline, I am constantly being ribbed by the Yorkies for speaking posh. I still have remnants of a SA accent I am told.

But don't worry about it. Most Yorkies are a lot more tolerant of well spoken English than they are in Lancs, Scouserland or even Daarn Saaarf.
