Having read up on making my own 50/50 base mix I went off hunting around my local ASDA for the following;

Semolina, Soya Flour, Milk powder, Ground rice and Maize/Corn meal.

All I found was skimmed milk powder.

Can anyone recommend which supermarkets I get this lot from, and in which section?

Thanks in advance!

soya flour and maize flour from health food shops.
the rest you should be able to find in the baking section of tesco or sainsburys.

I can only find skimmed milk powder too but it seems to do the job OK. As said try local health food shop Holand and Barret seem to be the most common.

Look for 'weigh and save' type shops, those that sell loose cornflakes and the like, they always have alsorts of stuff like that in!

Just got everything except the Soya Flour from my local Weigh and Save. It's about 400 yards from where I live!

Anybody know where I can definately get the Soya Flour?

Forgot to mention that the local Sainsburys had nothing of use, although I fancy trying Marzipan for the Chub.

I've certainly never heard of Polenta Flour, never mind seen it for sale.

I assume the difference between Corn Meal and Corn Flour is just how finely ground it is?

Find a high street supermarket specialising in Asian food, great big bags of Semolina, Soya Flour, Milk powder, Ground rice and Maize/Corn meal and at a fraction of the price of Holland and Barrett etc.
Then find another high street supermarket specialising in Chinese food for all manner of bits and pieces to go in your 50/50 mix which will make it a bit special.

I assumed Corn and Maize were the same thing. I always thought Maize was produced when Corn was freeze dried to improve it's shelf life.

I guess I'm wrong.

Obviously Corn, Sweetcorn and Corn on the Cob are one and the same, so where does Maize come from?

And more importantly, are there any differences when using wither flour in bait?

Cornflour.Purified, fine, powdery starch made from maize (Indian corn), used as a thickener in cooking; in the USA it is called cornstarch.
Maizemeal or Polenta. The English tend to use corn as a general term for wheat, barley, rye etc. The Americans use it to mean maize. This corn/maize has many varieties, but the main ones grown are popcorn, sweetcorn.
